Happy Happy Happy July!
Well...we are back in the real world again (after our four day immersion session at the lovely Skysong in May/June), and is it a hot one in Phoenix this year. But things are also hot on a number of other fronts. The new PhD program is launching this Fall, a new class is about to arrive (can you believe it, they know they have been admitted and they still have weeks and weeks to prepare!?!! inside joke), we are past the summer session half way point, success stories are popping up everywhere, etc, etc.
The MHI family and its spider-web-communication network continues to grow. As is our newsletter circulation (now over 340). We still have another 5.3 million health practitioners and decision-makers to reach (in the U.S.), but we have made a good start. No really, we have. Honestly.
No more is communication about a marketing budget and ability to "make a big splash." (Well, that's not really true either, those still can work, they are just so darn expensive) But there is this new "exponential" multiplier that can make it easy to diffuse and influence, in addition to how much it has impacted and messed up our every day lives.
Two examples that might help. The Genome project...7 years into the 15-year-way-expensive undertaking and it is 1% done. Wait a sec, 1% after seven years? Some people were freaking out. HOWEVER, all that was needed, and the technology to support the project was also advancing exponentially, was for the percent completed to double every year and it would catch up. That is exactly what happened and it ended up finishing early. Genome advancement continues this trend, after a brief two month celebration, every year.
NING, a free social networking site, started out and only had a small following (like many internet start-ups). But it was growing exponentially, which when you only have, say, 340 members doesn't seem like much. So some analysts wrote it off as a failure. 18 months later there are over 240,000 online communitities participating on NING.
So what does that mean? We can start small today and through viral loops and dynamic relationships build something that was not possible ten years ago. And these entities will be created with ever faster speed and fluid structures, because they will have to nimble. Now please don't go out and build a healthcare social network just yet -- we want to do that WITH you. But I'll leave that for another welcome message.
Happy Monday, Dan Nienhauser

You are an impressive group, and you feel free to solicit input from current students/soon-to-be alumni. There is a NING community site, and I'm sure other ways to community and interact will follow. Check out the newsletter archive link above, if interested.
Most of all, be ready for the wonderful and enlightening adventure that is MHI! We almost jealous that we are soon done, and you are just beginning! Almost!

MHI Forward...
Another month closer to that final grade (hopefully) and the beginning of a new chapter. We actually have LESS than one single month left until we are done, can you believe it?
So many exhilarating problems and answers are ahead of us, and even in our midst as we complete Capstone III and Outcomes; although many others are challenged with additional or alternative classes too!!!
If you can't tell, this newsletter is a little too much of one man's story. I guess the first few months benefitted from our collective low hanging fruit, and now it is either too hot out to do anything, or we are just too darn busy to get out that long ladder and get those plump articles and comments at the top of the tree.
I'm sure I have missed someone's article, so send it to me (again) and I'll be sure to add in for August!
Questions or challenges too! Get involved and included and inspired.
August is going to be so darn wonderful. New projects will launch! New companies will begin! New consulting practices will do...well, something!
