"And, the greatest of these is..."

I think we can all fill this one in.  It's LOVE of course!  We're going to be seeing a lot about love this month.  In fact, I've already raided the Valentines candy aisle at the grocery store...twice! Valentines Day is known for many things. It's known for producing romantic gestures by husbands and boyfriends who normally wouldn't think to do them on a normal day. It's known for being the most popular day of the year to become engaged to the one you love. It's also known for its many opportunities to tell those closest to you that you love them. And, children know this day as a way to tell their friends and maybe that one special someone, "Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you!"

Unfortunately, Valentines Day also has another side...a lonely side. For those of us who don't have that special someone in our lives, this day can become quite a burden and definitely something to dread rather than look forward to.  There are many women who are married with full lives but feel completely isolated and alone.  And, then there are those lonely, broken hearts out there where every holiday seems to exacerbate the pain and isolation they feel for whatever reason.

When it comes to love, there is something these 2 groups of people share.  And, that is the need and deep desire for pure, compassionate, unconditional love. The kind that can only be found in one place. I Corinthians 13 speaks of such a love, particularly verses 4 through 7. If you've been to many weddings, then you've probably heard these words read. I John 4:8 says, "Whoever does not know God does not know love, because God is love.". God IS love! So, let me give you the words to I Corinthians 13:4-7 substituting the word "love" with "God".

"God is patient, God is kind. he does not envy, he does not boast, he is not proud. He does not dishonor others, he is not self-seeking, he is not easily angered, he keeps no record of wrongs. God does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. He always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

I love that picture of who God is! No matter how filled you are with human love and affection on February 14th or no matter how lonely and sad you feel on a special day set aside to celebrate lovers, God is the only one who can give all of us what our souls really desire and the kind of love I Corinthians so eloquently describes. Without the fundamental understanding of God's love and His motivation of love, there can be no hope and therefore can be no faith.  The foundation of creation is love, and the reason we have been saved by love, John 3:16.

I want to encourage you to make this month a month all about love! Not the kind of love you find on the candy shelves at the grocery store (although it does get close). Not the kind of love you get from your companion. And, not even the kind of love you feel for your precious children. Make this a month of seeking to understand God's abundant love for you. His word is so full of rich truths that not only heal broken hearts but change people from the inside out.  I know this for a fact, because it happened to me! And, it will happen for you!
"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

Love and Blessings,
Julie

Speaker and presenter, Karen Porter, calls these spiritual girlfriends Chocolate Covered Friends. Based on her book, "I'll Bring the Chocolate: A Woman's Craving for Friendship and Faith", Karen will teach us how to have and how to become better spiritual friends. Ladies' Wednesday Night Bible Study

Beth Moore's Brand New "James: Mercy Triumphs" followed by Beth Moore's "Loving Well"

Wednesday Evenings 6:30 - 8:30 pm in Asbury Hall

January 11-March 7

In Beth Moore's newest study "James: Mercy Triumphs" we'll discover how James, Jesus' own brother, started out as a skeptic and see how one glimpse of the resurrected Savior turned an unbeliever into a disciple. Bible scholars compare James to the prophet Amos. In other ways, James more closely resembles the Book of Proverbs than any other New Testament book. Topics Beth will cover in this study include: joy, hardship, faith, reversal of fortunes for rich and poor, wisdom, gifts from above, single-mindedness, the dangers of the tongue, humility, and prayer.

March 28-April 18

"Loving Well" In this study, Beth Moore delivers heart-to-heart messages designed to help women embrace the biblical mandate to love and to develop skills for loving others. Beth discusses how some people are a joy to love, some are difficult to love, and how we all deal with some people who are humanly impossible to love. In all of those relationships, one truth endures: We will never be able to love others well until we have been loved well. And only God can ultimately give us the complete love we so desperately need. A guided journal accompanies the sessions and will

help you to reflect and apply the principles of the study.

20-30 Something's

Angela Thomas- "Do You Know Who I am? And Other Brave Questions Women Ask

January 11 - February 29

Wednesdays at 9:30 in

Women at all stages of life will identify with the heart cry that Angela Thomas identifies as she asks God if He knows her and loves her just as she is right now. In each chapter, she asks a different question that only God can answer: questions like "Do You know I am trembling inside?" , "Do You know I am lonely?" and "Do You know I am ordinary?" Each time Angela voices these questions to God, she finds that God's answer is always "Yes. I know your heart. I see your struggle. Do you know who I AM?" With her innate ability to connect with women on both an emotional and spiritual level, Angela reveals that the secret to being known and loved lies in an intimate understanding of who God is. Each struggle is explored through vivid storytelling, biblical teaching, and practical application. This teaching assures readers that their personal, spiritual, and eternal fulfillment is not dependent on getting themselves together first. Rather, God has a purpose for them just as they are even if they feel broken, afraid, disappointed, or disillusioned.

Book Club

women

Do you enjoy reading? Do you like building friendships and spending time with other women?  Do you have the desire to be challenged and build a stronger relationship with God?  If you answered yes or maybe to any of these questions, then why not join the Women's Ministry Book Club?  Beginning in March, we will attempt to read 1 book per month and then meet for an evening of discussion and fellowship.  The goal of this reading group is to become challenged by reading selections that are Christian in nature and call us to do more and be more as Christian women.  You can join the group at any time, and you are able to pick and choose which months you attend.  Women lead very busy lives, and if you aren't quite able to finish the book, come anyway! We promise to have great table discussions and fellowship time.
