Greetings and Blessings!

Last week I ran across this joke -
A husband and wife were at a party chatting with some friends when the subject of marriage counseling came up.  "Oh, we'll never need that. My husband and I have a great relationship," the wife explained.   "He was a communications major in college, and I majored in theater arts.  He communicates really well, and I just act as if I'm listening."
Communication is so important but I'm afraid that many times we all just act as if we are listening or we just skim the emails.   You will not want to miss any of our exciting details!

Welcome to our first official monthly Family Life Ministries e-newsletter.  Our goal is to communicate with you each month in a new format so that you can receive the big picture overview of family events.  This exciting new ministry also includes our ministries for children, women, recreation and special needs.   Each of them will continue to have their own e-newsletters too but instead of you receiving five different e-letters you will receive this one and direct links to the other four.   The box in the top left corner of this newsletter provides you with the list of each of these ministries.  Just click on the box(es) you are interested in and you will instantly be linked to their newsletters.   Please notice that you can also forward this to your friends so that they too can be in the "communication" link and get involved in all these great events.  This newsletter will arrive in your inbox the first of each month.  We will also send you a recap of current events and registrations on the 15th of each month.  We would love to hear from you if you have ideas on improving our communication - don't be shy jump right in with your views!

Sometimes, I am one of the last to know about cool gadgets and technical goodies so if you already know about this website and their product don't laugh.  A friend recently shared this information with me as we talked about our irritation over movies with a good lesson that we would want to share with children but the producers will add something(s) that prevent us from being able to do that.   She sent me a link to www.clearplay.com.  This company lets you select a filtering system that you are comfortable with and takes everything out, seamlessly, that you do not want your family being subjected to.   Check out this sight for more information and a free demonstration of how it works.

Please continue to read below about more great opportunities!  Have a blessed August and please be praying about your involvement in all these wonderful new programs.

Foster Care/Adoption Program

One of the pieces of Family Life Ministry that I am most excited about is our foster care/adoption partnership and plans with Arrow Child and Family Ministries.  We are working to take this one step at a time and let each step build on the last one.  Here is a sneak peak.
Step 1:    Foster care/Adoption Survey -  we want to identify everyone in our church family and in our surrounding area who past, present or future is involved in foster care and/or adoption.  You will find more info about this survey and a direct link to it in the Foster Care/Adoption Info Box of this newsletter.   If you or someone you know has ever been a foster care family or has adopted children or would just like more information about what is involved please go to this link and complete the survey.

Foster Care/Adoption Information Survey

Step 2:    TWUMC Needs Assessment - we want everyone who completes the survey and is current a foster care family or current has or is adopting to complete the needs assessment that will tell us how we can best encourage, undergird and support these families.

Needs Assessment Survey

Step 3:    Volunteer Skills Survey  -  we want everyone who thinks they would consider offering their time to meet a need through service projects to complete this skill survey so that we can work to match needs with skills.

Volunteer Skills Survey

Step 4:    We are going to offer information meetings regarding foster care and adoption on September 28 and November 9.   No commitment is needed.  These are strictly information meetings to give you a real look at the opportunities available and to answer your questions  about the process.

Sunday September 29 - 5:00 to 7:00
Sunday November 9 - 5:00 to 7:00

Foster Care Information Meetings Registration

Step 5:    We are planning a Foster Care Family Appreciation Day in connection with Pumpkin Patch on Saturday, October 25.   Invitations will be sent to those responding to the Step 1 survey.
Step 6:    We plan to begin offering the actual training classes to become foster care parents and to offer on going continuing education classes for foster parents here on our campus.
