An Invitation to Transformation in Christ

 Saturday, June 18 in the library at 9am

 

Father Peter invites you to "The Spiritual Life at St. Mark's: A Continuing Creative Conversation." Our emphasis next year is "An Invitation to Transformation in Christ,"  Be a part of the  plan to help everyone in the congregation live a deeper life in Christ.   

 

Join us on Saturday, June 18 in the library at 9am for refreshments and 9:30-11:00 for discussion.  

   
Sunday at St. Mark's 

Sunday Lectionary Bible Study. . . Each Sunday during the summer, the preacher for the day will lead a discussion on the Bible readings for the day from 9:00-10:00am in the Library. All are welcome.

 

Father's Day ChorusOur Annual Father's Day Men and Boys Choir gathers Sunday morning at 9 a.m. to rehearse specially appointed hymns to the delight of the parish at 10.  Men, boys, grandpas, uncles, friends are invited to be a part of this beloved tradition - you don't have to be a singer, B-P will work his musical magic on the men and have you singing with gusto within the hour.

Sunday is this week at the 10:00 service.  Join us as we celebrate Helen's 20 years of dedicated and loving service to the children and families of St. Mark's Nursery School.

 

The Lion's Den - only 2 Sundays left before our church store closes September readingfor the summer!!!  Stock up now on granola, barbecue sauce, greeting cards, gifts and books!!!  And if you find you need something during July and August, please do not be shy about calling as we will be on campus most of the season and would be happy to work with your schedule.

 

Grateful Thanks to last Sunday's picnic helpers, decorators, grillers, and everyone else who turned the soggy morning into a joyous celebration of Pentecost, baptism and newcomers!  Special thanks to event planner extraordinaire Nancy Kalal for organizing the festive morning.

 

Sitting Pretty will be all our babies, thanks to Kristin Grzymski and her daughter Emma. These 2 ladies spent an afternoon in the church office assembling beautiful wooden high chairs for the babies of the parish. You'll find them in Morrill Hall and please use them if you have a need!  Grateful appreciation to our builders!

Sundays in the Summer! ...Beginning June 26th, we will offer fun activities for children in grades K-6th (rising) on Sunday mornings throughout the Summer.  Class will meet in the library at 9:50am.  If you'd like to lend a hand, please contact jhill@stmarksnewcanaan.org

Agree to Greet This Summer! Two sets of Greeters are needed each Sunday for the 10:00 worship service.  Fun, easy, and a great way to get to know the congregation.  Bring your children. There's nothing more charming than a young smiling face.  Please contact Judy Webb at judyatbank@aol.com  if you can help with this important St. Mark's hospitality ministry.

Large Casseroles Needed for the St Elizabeth's Guild's meals ministry. We are completely out of Casserolelarge meals. Please bring your frozen casseroles to Thea in the parish office. They must be dated, signed by the cook, wrapped securely, and labeled with complete ingredients (Thea has the labels.) Do not put any casseroles directly into the freezer.

Seeking New Church School Teachers . . .  If you'd like to inquire about teaching in the Church School or working with children or youth in some capacity next year, please contact jhill@stmarksnewcanaan.org.

St. Mark's Nursery School
is accepting fall applications.   We have room in our 3s program for Fall 2011-12. If you know parents looking for a 3s nursery school program, please have them call the school for more information at 203.972-7888 or email stmarksns@yahoo.com. Please note when applying that three-year-old children must be three by October 1, 2011.  Our new website under construction and will be finished soon, take a peak: www.smns.org/

Plethora of Parishioner's Platters will be put out on Sunday morning from events gone by.  Your platters want to go home where they belong, please reclaim them!

Printers Needed for needy families in South Norwalk. If you have a printer in good working condition that you do not need anymore, please bring it to Mother Anne at the parish office.

Habitat (of Humanity) ReStore will send a truck to pick up donations of still-useable appliances, cabinetry and building materials, keeping them out of our landfills.All proceeds from the sale of these donated items are cycled right back into building Habitat homes.Last year the Restore generated enough revenue to almost completely fund one home.This year it is on track to completely fund 2 homes! Sitting in Style...The Town Health & Human Services Commission is kicking off a campaign to add more sitting benches for seniors on the major walkways of the town The 6 foot, teak benches can be engraved with donor name or message on the back of the bench, and will be placed on sidewalks on land owned by the town (not parks or schools).  People can sponsor and engrave a bench for a tax deductible donation of $1,000.  Contact Jim Lisher (972-3519) or Carlyn Tiefenthaler (966-5794) who are members of the HHS Commission.

  • The Episcopal Church encourages all baptized children to receive the bread and wine of Holy Communion. 
  • Nursery Care is available in the education wing from 8:45am-11:45pm for children up to age 5 (Summer only)

THE New Orleans Meeting will be held in the education center on June 19th from 11-11:30am.  I promise you'll be out in time for father's day lunch!

Adult Education & Worship

Sunday Evening Holy Eucharist at 5pm will take a break for the summer. The last 5pm service of the month will be on June 26. It will resume on September 11.

 

Meditation Group meets Thursday mornings from 9-9:30am in the Parlor in the Parish House. All levels of experience are welcome. Check out the website of the World Community for Christian Meditation to see how we do it: www.wccm.org.

 

Bible Marathon Approaches the Finish Line!  Here is an opportunity to read through the Bible cover to cover (that's right, every word) in six months (October-May). Mother Anne holds a time for discussion twice a month on Thursdays. Read all the books from Hebrews through Jude. Our final class will be on Thursday, June 23, when we will discuss the Book of Revelation.

 

poeotryPoetry Group Continues to Meet in the Summer each Thursday from 5-6pm (note time change) in the library beginning June 2 and continuing throughout the summer. The assignment for this week is to write an ars poetica (a poem about poetry). Come with or without a poem. All welcome.
