62nd St. Mark's May Fair & Strawberry Festival
Saturday, May 7 9am-7pm Rain or Shine
Last Minute May Fair Bits
- Not Too Late to Help! Stop by the volunteer table (in front of the arcade) on Saturday for an assignment and/or your nametag
- Green Tent Free Raffle! Stop by the Green Tent (near the main entrance to the church) for a chance to win a pair of Outdoor Rietveld Chairs. The chairs are an adaptation of The Red Blue Chair designed in 1917 by Dutch architect and furniture designer Gerrit Rietveld as part of the De Stijl art movement and are an iconic example of early modern furniture. The chairs are made of partially salvaged #1 grade western red cedar which is valued for its distinct appearance, its high natural resistance to decay, and its pungent aromatic oils which are believed to act as a fungicide and discourage moth and carpet beetle larvae. The chairs are finished with 3 coats of 100% pure tung oil-an environmentally friendly drying oil that contains no petroleum distillates that is obtained by pressing the seed from the nut of the tung tree. The oil and its use are believed to have originated long ago in China, and appear in the writings of Confucius from about 400 B.C. The same chairs are used on the grounds of Wave Hill public garden on the Hudson river and have a retail value of $300 each.
- Coffee Cafe and Baked Goods Sale: We are grateful for all participation. Items should include a list of ingredients and be dropped off in the little kitchen off the Library the day before May Fair. Small items sell quicker than big ones, but ALL donations are welcome. We will have appropriate packaging supplies on hand for a tray of cookies or brownies etc. to "fluff them up" for sale, so individual wrapping of items is appreciated but not required.
