Sunday at St. Mark's
The Year of the Story continues Sunday in Morrill Hall from 9:00-9:45am as we take a year-long mountain-top tour of the Bible! Each Sunday we discuss a major Bible story, beginning with Genesis and ending with Revelation. Bishop Grein leads a discussion of the "Baptism of Jesus." Click here for the syllabus.

Foundations for Discipleship Class Meets Sunday. This is a class intended for newcomers and adults preparing for baptism or confirmation but open to everyone. The clergy leads 12 sessions spanning the program year at 11:15 in the Education Center. The class covers the basics of the faith including Jesus, the Bible, prayer, the sacraments, and church music. The winter series begins today from 11:15-noon, when Bishop Grein will lead a class on the Episcopal Church. (Winter dates: Sundays January 9- February 13; Spring dates: Sundays March 20 - April 10). It's never too late to join this conversational class.

Events & Announcements The Annual Meeting of the Parish takes place on Sunday, January 30 immediately following the 10:00 service. Be sure to save the date! The meeting includes a State of the Church address by the rector, reports by the Senior Warden and Treasurer, election of Officers, new Vestry and Nominating Committee members, and new Substitute Diocesan Delegates. All are encouraged to attend; children's entertainment and lunch will be provided in Morrill Hall during the meeting. Don't Miss Out! St. Mark's Nursery School Presents "Mrs. Palmesi's Rules." Never one without opinions, advice and an open mind, longtime director of St. Mark's Nursery School, Helen Palmesi will present her renown list, "Mrs. Palmesi's Rules" at T ea Time on Tuesday, January 11th from 9:15-11:15 a.m. in the St. Mark's library. This is a humorous, yet educating discussion about bottom line basics for the growing up and holding down of young children. SMNS invites parents, caregivers, friends in the community (no admission fee) to learn more about the meaning behind such praises as "Don't Ask, Front Load, Turn It Off, and Choose the Choices." The remaining two Tea Times for the calendar school year 2010-2011 are Tuesday, March 15 and Tuesday, April 12. Refreshments will be served . The Martin Luther King Day Service hosted by Interfaith of New Canaan is 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 17 at United Methodist Church, 165 South Ave. The keynote speaker is Rev. Douglas McArthur, Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Stamford; also speaking are two seniors at New Canaan's ABC House. Music for the service is provided by the Serendipity Chorale. The collection offering benefits the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County; a food drive for the New Canaan Food Pantry will also be held in conjunction with this service. Items that are especially needed include: juice, kids' snacks, canned chicken, canned stew, cookies, laundry detergent and dish soap. May Fair Furniture is Abundant This Season! With several households of furniture awaiting our pickup, we are in need of storage - barns, garages, basements, storage units. If you can, please help us store our White Elephants until May. Despite the nay sayings of her fellow Hippos, Greta's best friend Polly (a frog) believes that perhaps she can actually fly, but just needs help to learn how. New Haven Symphony presents the second in a series of children's musical productions at St. Mark's on Sunday, January 30 from 2-3pm. Sunday Morning Greeters Needed. Sign-up sheets are outside the library or contact Judy Webb: judyatbank@aol.com with your availability, and she will sign you up. We need 2 sets of 2 greeters each week. The Food Pantry is running low on supplies while the demands are increasing. Please help us restock our shelves with the supplies listed below. Donations should be brought to the Undercroft, down the ramp by the lower parking lot; food can be put on tables along far left wall of room. Financial gifts should be made to Human Services of New Canaan with Food Pantry in the memo line. Children and Family Ministries Registration In the Episcopal Church, all baptized children are invited to receive the bread and wine of Holy Communion. If you have questions about communion education at St. Mark's, please contact Joshua A. Hill, Director of Children's and Youth Ministries.
Church School begins at 9:50am. Please help us minimize classroom distractions by being on-time, we only have 40 minutes. The children enter church at the Peace. - PK3-2nd grade drop-off is in the Library.

Week Day Adult Education & Worship
Monday Class Continues After Christmas... "Finding Meaning in the Second Half of Life" by James Hollis, PhD, is the focus of the current Monday class. Join Mother Anne and fellow parishioners (from all stages of life!) on Mondays from 9:15-10:30 in the Library as we discuss key life issues such as barriers to transformation, the dynamics of intimate relationship, recovering a mature spirituality in a materialistic age, the family during the second half of life, and career vs. vocation. Childcare provided. The book is available in the Lion's Den. Our next class will be tomorrow, Monday, January 3. Please read chapter 5 for Monday's class.
Wednesday Morning Bible Study continues in the Education Center from 10-11am. Bishop Grein concludes the study of the Apocalypse on Wednesday, January 19 and introduces the next study: The Gospel of Matthew. Don't miss this class! All are welcome.
Meditation Group meets Thursday mornings from 9-9:30am in the church house parlor. All welcome.
