KCDear Friends,

Exciting news is about to come your way!

Soon, you will be receiving information on how you, our generous supporters near and far, can really help Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation in our mission to eliminate pediatric cancer and to provide hope and support to those who are touched by it.

Over the last 18 years we have received countless calls from across the United States asking if there was an organization like Bear Necessities that could help children in their geographic location. Sadly, we have had to notify those people that there was not.  Now that Bear Necessities is confident that we are meeting the needs of the children in our own backyards, we have developed the Bear Hugs Program to provide family support services across the United States and further our reach to these children and families.

Watch for specific email information to hit your inboxes, as well as posts on our website. Should this already spark your volunteer interests, please contact Elyse Barson, Programs and Services Manager, and she will make sure you receive the information as soon as it is ready.

Thank you all and please remember that over 12,500 children will be diagnosed this year with some form of pediatric cancer, and without your help we can't begin to make an impact on their lives.

Fondly,

Kathleen
President/Founder

GIRL SCOUT TROOP 161 VISITS BN OFFICE

Girl Scout Troup 161

Last week while on spring break, Girl Scout Troop 161 from Algonquin, IL took the Metra to Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

They came with a mission; to create goodie bags filled with toys, toiletries and cookies to be distributed to patients and familes at future Hopital Meals hosted by BN. Although the troop purchased some of the items that they used, they were quite successful with soliciting for donations. They brought all of the items and spent some time assembling bags.

In addition to their project, they had the opportunity to meet the BN staff and learn more about the organization's initiatives and the role that each staff person plays to make BN's initiatives successful.

Oh, and of course they brought Girl Scout cookies for BN staff to enjoy! Thank you very much Troop 161 for all your efforts. It was such a pleasure to meet all of you!

FEATURED SMALL MIRACLE

 TJ

TJ

TJ, 6, was very excited for his Small Miracle at the Monster Truck Show! He was sent a Monster Truck t-shirt, hat, book and video to prepare him for the big night. TJ and his family started the night going to dinner and then made their way to the Allstate Arena for their special night!

The Monster Truck Show Staff greeted TJ and his family and gave him VIP treatment. They met and took photos with many of the drivers, received autographs, and even had a behind the scenes sneak peek before the show began. TJ had a wonderful night!

A special thanks to Brian Rog, Manager of Public Relations at Feld Motor Sports, for making TJ's Small Miracle fantastic!

HOSPITAL OUTREACH
 Loyola University Medical Center

Loyola VisitVolunteers from Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation  brought smiles and cheer to patients and their families on St. Patricks's Day at Ronald McDonald Children's Hospital of Loyola University Medical Center.
 Noah, 11, and his dad

Volunteers wore green, decorated the playroom, and encouraged patients and their families to get in the spirit by wearing green hats and beads. Lunch was served and green and white cupcakes were enjoyed for dessert!

Loyola Volunteers

Volunteers visited with patients and provided each of them a blanket made and donated by Bear Necessities' volunteers. Thank you Debbie Flores, Laura Kohler, Elizabeth Stiles and Christine Spencer (pictured above) for taking the time to volunteer with us at Loyola. The patients and their families enjoyed spending time with you.
