The 2010 Bear Tie Ball: Mardi Gras With Meaning was a great success!
An enormous thank you to the Bear Tie Ball planning committee, our staff, our Board of Directors, our wonderful guests, the generous auction item donors and the cast of volunteers who made the evening the success it was.
On February 20th at Union Station, close to half a million dollars was raised in support of the increasing needs that childhood cancer presents. Bear Tie Ball remains our single largest source of revenue each year as well as a venue to heighten the awareness of this devastating disease and the work that Bear Necessities does throughout the year to bring hope and joy into these children's lives.
Congratulations again to Chris Noon of Builtech Construction and Gary Fencik who received the 2010 William J. Casey HOPE Awards. These awards honor both a corporation and an individual who assist Bear Necessities in its mission to give children with cancer HOPE for another tomorrow.
Our friends, Jay Levine and Mary Ann Childers once again graciously gave their time to be our honorary chairpersons and emcees for the evening, which always brings such warm professionalism to the event. This year, new to the scene was none other than Jenniffer Weigel who took the stage as our Live Auctioneer and I might add was quite a rock star!!
We were honored to have Senator Bill and Nancy Brady, Tom and Cece Ricketts, Mayor Bradley and Suzi Stephens, Gary and Sandy Fencik, Roe and Barbara Conn and Mario and Cheryl Tricoci in attendance and as great advocates for our organization.
The highlight of the evening was the crowning of the king and queen of our Mardi Gras Ball. Each year, children who have received a Small Miracle share their courageous stories with our guests at the Bear Tie Ball. this year our Small Miracle Ambassadors, Jeremy Campus and Jamarielle Ransom-Marks truly helped us celebrate Mardi Gras with meaning.
A wonderful way to start the year off, now let's get to work and beat this disease!

Priscilla

Priscilla and her family spent one night at Key Lime Cove in Gurnee, IL. They enjoyed a luxurious suite, with a delicious breakfast and a pizza party for dinner. Key Lime Cove presented Priscilla with balloons upon arrival and created a treasure hunt for her in her room. The family was also able to splash around in Key Lime Cove's water park all day and partake in other games and activities that the hotel offered.
Dear Elyse & Bear Necessities,
Thank you for enabling us to go to Key Lime Cove in Gurnee, Illinois last week. We have not been able to do too much as a family for awhile. We really had a wonderful time. It was so nice for Priscilla to be able to enjoy the moment and forget about her illness for a bit. We appreciate your generosity. Thanks again!

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital Meal
On Monday, volunteers lifted the spirits of patients and their families at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. They served lunch and offered a variety of sandwiches, chips, cookies and soda with a friendly smile. The volunteers also decorated the hospital playroom with an Olympic theme. Plus a volunteer's brother participated on the U.S. Olympic Team for Men's Volleyball and sent tattoos, pins and autographed photos for the kids!
Many kids thought it was really cool to have a local connection to the Olympics through Bear Necessities. In addition, beautiful fleece blankets made and donated by Cheryl Arts and Ms. Bernau's third grade class were distributed to patients.
Thank you to Jennifer Gallery, Rachel Kelley and Don Talend for lending your time to make this afternoon a special one. Thank you to Dave Dorsay at Jimmy John's in Niles for his generous donation of goods and delivery services.
If you would like to help us with food donations or create gifts to give patients, please contact Elyse at ebarson@bearnecessities.org. |
