Are You Amazing?
July 30 through August 2 will mark a seminal moment in professional speaking. Those are the dates of INFLUENCE '11, the National Speakers Association's 2011 Convention, and we're looking for amazing people to be part of it. This convention will be like none you have ever experienced. It's new, fresh and, most important, relevant to speakers, consultants, coaches, authors and anyone who influences the world in a positive way. We're searching for powerful, content-rich sessions that will leave convention attendees screaming for more. | Do you want to speak at the Global Speakers Summit? |
 The Global Speakers Summit, the bi-annual GSF international convention, will be held near Amsterdam, The Netherlands, April 14-16. Proposals are now being accepted for concurrent sessions and/or 15-minute showcases. The concurrent sessions must have a global or international focus. The 15-minute showcases must be a shortened version of what you usually offer to audiences. A showcase will give you exposure to colleagues who can recommend you to their clients, and to meeting planners who attend to preview speakers. Plan to attend the Summit for content-rich education and networking opportunities. Bring the family or sightsee with colleagues. You'll also have opportunities to visit the Van Gogh Museum and tiptoe through the tulip fields-which will be in full bloom-during pre- and post-conference tours. Deadline to submit: Oct. 1, 2010. Are you providing what meeting planners are looking for? |

A recent survey of meeting planners published in Meetings & Conventions magazine gives an overview of topics and types or presentations they want from speakers.

As NSA has become aware of the various provisions related to the recently passed healthcare bill, there is one provision that will directly affect all business owners in the United States, including speakers. In NSA's ongoing efforts to keep you informed of issues directly affecting your business, we want to share a non-partisan summary of this information. Section 9006 of the Healthcare Bill mandates that beginning in 2012 all companies will have to issue 1099 tax forms, not just to contract workers, but to any individual or corporation from which they buy more than $600 in goods or services in a tax year. Goods and services include not only contract labor, but also any purchases over $600 made for the business from any vendor or business. NSA is urging speakers to become aware of this provision so adequate preparations can be made for your business and the paperwork that will be required to remain in compliance with this law beginning in 2012. Currently, an amendment to the bill is being proposed by Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) and would repeal section 9006 and these extra paperwork requirements. As more details become available, NSA will keep you updated on these new requirements. If you would like to voice your support for this proposed amendment, you are encouraged to contact your Senator directly and ask them to support Sen. Johann's amendment. |

As the Internet continues to develop, so do a variety of sites that feature and rate speakers. One of the newest is SpeakerWiki.org. Ratings on the site are based on in-depth profiles provided by speakers featured on the site (and many speakers are not even aware they are listed on this site). NSA encourages all members to check what this and others sites post about them to ensure the image you are trying to convey is reflected in the sites others may be creating that feature you. |
