Dear ,
"An Important Message of a Botanical Nature"
Vote YES for this....Vote NO for that! I have to admit that the election season gets a bit overwhelming after a while with the bombardment of political ads on the airwaves, in our mail and over the phone with the robo-calls and direct appeals for our votes and support. Well, "change is coming" to the Conservatory of Flowers in the form of a beautiful botanical transformation of our galleries that brings a refreshing new experience for our visitors and members. We bid a fun and fond farewell to CHOMP 2 on Halloween after a fantastic, popular and well-attended run of this excellent exhibition celebrating the unique array of carnivorous plants. Lots of excitement is already being generated by the upcoming Garden Railway 3 that will focus on the 140th Anniversary of Golden Gate Park! It opens to the visiting public the day after our Conservatory Gala on the evening of Thursday, November 18th!
The Conservatory horticulture team infuses the vibrant colors of autumn into many display areas throughout the galleries. The replanting of Conservatory Valley also will provide a stunning splash of floral color of cooler weather annuals for winter and early spring.
Vote with your visit...support the Conservatory by proudly showing your membership card or attending the gala! I'm Brent Dennis, Director of the Conservatory of Flowers, and I approve this message!

WHAT'S IN BLOOM?
Things are looking up in the Highland Tropics Gallery and you should be too. Our Sobralia caloglossa that has been reaching for the sky from its home in the south side of the recessed bed is now in bloom. This towering terrestrial orchid from Bolivia and Peru is over ten feet tall and displays beautiful Cattleya-like flowers. Like other members of the genus, the flowers will not last long. Visit the Conservatory of Flowers in the next week or so to see why Sobralias are making their way into Bay Area gardens and why Sobralia caloglossa is known by some as "The Beautiful Lipped Sobralia".

TROPICS TREASURES AND TRAINS
On November 18, 2010 the Conservatory of Flowers will open its doors for its 3rd annual Gala. This year, the Gala will celebrate the 140th anniversary of Golden Gate Park, inviting guests to preview the Garden Railway Exhibit honoring this milestone. This winter's Garden Railway Exhibit will introduce an all new landscape featuring Golden Gate Park, and its many recognizable landmarks, water features and botanical elements, replicated in miniature.
Gala Honorary Chairs Wendy Holcombe and Ann Little Simon, and Director Brent Dennis invite you to the third annual Gala, to celebrate our wonderful landmark and its history with the many Conservatory supporters and patrons ! The festivities will include the Whistlestop Scavenger Hunt, leading from depot to depot through the Conservatory's Galleries, in search of delights. Guests will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to the Money Tree - our cash raffle with prizes of $500, $750 and $1000! Volunteers have been working around the clock to secure donations for our Silent Auction! This year's Gala will introduce the signature wreath auction, sure to be an annual staple for securing beautiful holiday decorations crafted by local floral designers. Other premier items in the Silent Auction include thrills for train enthusiasts, event tickets, wine packages, opportunities to dine and visit locales throughout Northern California, jewelry, art and other unique items! The evening will be a purposeful event for all in our community to gather in celebration, and in consideration, of the meaningful work done at the Conservatory to teach California school children the importance of environmental stewardship and of honoring the connectivity between people and plants. We hope you will join us!
All proceeds benefit the Conservatory of Flowers' youth education program. Date: November 18 Time: 6-10 PM Attire: Cocktail Valet parking will be available.

A SLURP! SUCCESS
Thanks to all who came out for SLURP! - the Conservatory's first after-hours nightlife event, and a hearty welcome to our new fans and members, joining our community for the first time after this event!
Thanks is also due to all of our awesome presenters who livened up these galleries. Pacific Brewing Labs fit us into their busy event schedule to craft three unique flavors of beer for SLURP! They kept the party going in Potted Plants! Beautiful carnivorous terrariums were built with the help of the Sarah and Yvette from Wonderarium, and their Succulent Circus. Three lucky drawing winners took home the prize terrariums -blown glass pieces crafted by local artist Shannon Moon. Email Shannon for blownglass commissions or unique glass pieces for your potting needs or inspired terrariums! With a turn out of over 230 folks, many of whom had never had the opportunity to visit previously, we're happy to have exposed a whole new side of th e Conservatory to visitors! We can't wait to open up the galleries at night again, so stay posted for evening events with more engaging presenters and giveaways in 2011!
Post your own photos on our Facebook Page! Thanks to the fabulous bartenders from PartyStaff and to the San Francisco Parks Trust for their generous wine donation!
