Who Says Vampires Don't Come Out During the Day?
|
The Conservatory's Dracula vampira couldn't wait for Halloween. It has escaped from the support greenhouse and is lurking in ominous beauty near the fountain in the Highlands Gallery to carefully eye our visitors. You can recognize him by his long, tapered, and striped sepals which are borne on pendulous inflorescences. Our vampire's lip is hinged and used to lure flies for pollination. Small petals in the center of the flower form the distinctive eyes which help give the genus Dracula its Latin name of "little dragon." Do you dare look into the eyes of Dracula?
