The Heart of It ALL!

.
Greetings!,
During these days leading up to Valentines Day, I am reminded of the many things that develop as a true love and passion within our lives. Certainly the past few months have brought many heart-warming examples of a genuine type of love and 'horticultural affection' from many corners of our Bay Area community and beyond. All of us at the Conservatory of Flowers have been so encouraged and inspired by the outpouring of important signs of love and support of this very special place within Golden Gate Park.
I have found my days starting with an anxious anticipation of opening my emails and 'snail mails' to find new as well as returning supporters of the Conservatory through so many of our volunteer, donor and Jungle Pass 'doorways'.
We are extremely proud to announce that our first-ever HOLIDAY APPEAL was very well received. I want to extend a very special 'thank you' to all of you who followed your heart and shared in a much-appreciated way.
Our family of Jungle Pass holders has rapidly grown and has attracted many out-of-town holiday gift givers. Many of our supporters are sharing the Conservatory of Flowers with friends and family through the joy of giving a gift Jungle Pass over the holidays.
Our visitors over the holidays and into the early winter months have also fallen in love quite vividly through their experiences with our popular AND photogenic "COLOR: A Winter Carnivale" floral displays presented in our Exhibitions Gallery. While this cloudy day-brightening extravaganza of brilliant blooms continues to dazzle our guests, its showiness comes to a highly anticipated transformation into our next blockbuster exhibition on pollination, better known as the Butterfly Zone during the middle of March.
I guess if you love springtime adages - at the Conservatory of Flowers, March will come in like a dandy-lion and go out like a butterfly???
Thanks for joining me in falling deeper and deeper in love with the Conservatory of Flowers. And, I wish you a very happy Valentines Day

MADE IN AMERICA PROFILES THE CONSERVATORY
When he's not Dancing with the Stars or tending bar at Cheers, John Ratzenberger hosts the popular "Made in America" series for the Travel Channel. On January 31, John and his crew filmed the Conservatory for an upcoming episode. "Made in America" profiles a distinctly American made product and celebrates the people who make it work everyday. This episode focuses on the rebuilding of the Conservatory after the devastating storm of 1995. When asked about the debut date we were advised, "April or maybe November, or maybe sometime in between." So stay tuned to our enews and we will advise you as soon as we know the date for the Travel Channel presentation. |
Pavonia multiflora

A perfect red bloom for Valentine's Day, the Pavonia multiflora looks spectacular in our Potted Plant Gallery. Not only does this Brazilian native, known as Brazilian Candles, possess an inner set of purple petals to complement its bright red outer petals, or bracts, it has rare blue stamens! There are more than 200 species of Pavonia.
Take a closer look at this member of the malva family (like hibiscus and abutilons) on your next visit. |

The Aquatic Gallery is attracting quite a crowd to view the amazing Penjing Exhibit. Dr. John Peterson created ten examples of the ancient Chinese art of penjing some of which are "floating" in the ponds of the gallery. Ron Sullivan and Joe Eaton interviewed Dr. Peterson about the history of penjing for their recent article in the San Francisco Chronicle. Nina Sazevich was recently interviewed about the Chinese Landscapes Brought to San Francisco.
