The original plant, a hybrid between the cold-hardy, orange-flowered 'Miss Huff' and the tender 'New Gold', appeared as a chance seedling in the garden of Susy Dirr, Mike Dirr's beloved daughter who died from Cystic Fibrosis. 'Chapel Hill Yellow' is a perennial (Zone 7) with vigorous regrowth and remarkably abundant yellow flowers from Spring to Fall.
Chapel Hill Gold:
An exciting, new, gold flowered selection developed from 'Chapel Hill Yellow'. This plant has the same dark green foliage, vigorous growth, low-spreading habit, prolific flower production, and cold hardiness as 'Chapel Hill Yellow'. A portion of the royalty from the sale of both these Chapel Hill Lantanas will be donated to The Sweet Melissa Fund for lung transplant patients and families at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Mary Ann:
'Mary Ann' is a new lantana for 2009 from Monrovia. It is a gorgeous bicolor orange, yellow and pink flowers which will bloom from spring to late fall. She is a spectacular 30 inch compact shrub that is very cold hardy to Zone 7. 'Mary Ann' is a good substitute for 'Anne Marie' which is not as cold hardy.
