HMA Direct
Commonwealth of Massachusetts Attorney General |
We realize that your phones ring daily with people trying to save you money on health insurance. It is a constant struggle to offer plans that are affordable & competitive. We try to warn clients of certain carriers selling self-insurance plans , like HMA Direct. Self-insured plans may start to be an option for more of our clients, but you need to be very careful. Bottom line, you must read the Summary Plan Description (SPD) for exclusions, underwriting guidelines & whether or not state mandates are included.
Click here for the press release from the Attorney General regarding HMA Direct.
This group aggressively markets small businesses (less than 100 employees). |
Ask Beth
Q: Do I have to have an I-9 form for part-time employees, or is it only required for full-timers?
A: Federal law requires that you have a completed I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) form on file for every employee that works for you, including part-time employees. There is a new, revised form that can be found here . The last 2 pages of the file need to be printed front and back so that the employee is given all of the pertinent information regarding acceptable forms of ID to verify employment. The first pages detail the guidelines for using the form and instructions for the employer

Insurance Partnership
Update - Call them today! |
In the past, we've talked about Insurance Partnership for companies under 50 employees. The Insurance Partnership subsidizes the premiums of income eligible employees. It is not a health plan, but merely works with any health plan offered by the employer. In addition there are monies paid to employers participating in the program.
We encourage you to take a 2nd look at this program. Even if you have spoken with them in the past, things change. So, to hear the latest on the program and see if any of your employees can qualify, call Dave Ten Eyck direct. Remember, the burden of the paperwork is on the employee to complete.

Employee Benefit Adviser
National Magazine on Employee Benefits
All industries have their trade magazines, and one of ours is Employee Benefit Adviser. This month's cover story is about the Universal Health efforts in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and interviews four brokers that concentrate in the health insurance marketplace. One of the four brokers selected to participate in the interview was Bill Randell. Check it out.
Health Insurance continues to be a national problem, as prices continue to increase, it's important to work with advisers that focus their attention to employee benefits. We work very closely with Blue Cross, Tufts, Harvard and Fallon every single day. Building strong relationships with these carriers helps ensure that you get the best pricing and options possible.
