DC VOICE
To Inform and Mobilize....

Greetings!,

Thanks to the help of over 200 community volunteers, we are quickly approaching our goal of auditing 138 DC public schools this fall.  Last week DC VOICE volunteers entered their 100th  school audit, and we are excited to have begun our last week of school visits yesterday.  With the participation of nearly all DC public schools this year, the 2007 Ready Schools Project promises to be the most comprehensive yet. We could not have done it without your support.  The flexibility and commitment of all of our volunteers and contributors is making the Ready Schools Project a great success!  Volunteers and community members will have an opportunity to provide direction for the final report later this month.  See below.

Anacostia

October Fundraiser Kick-Off

DC VOICE would like to thank the community, volunteers, and sponsors for their continued support on behalf of the Ready Schools Project.

In the past, the Ready Schools Project report has resulted in the earlier recruitment and hiring of teachers, more investments in summer facilities maintenance and the on-time delivery of critical textbooks and materials. This year, with your help, the Ready Schools Project obtained nearly 50 organizational endorsements and was featured in stories by The Washington Post, Fox Channel 5 News, and The Washington Examiner.  During the month of August, we conducted over 200 volunteer trainings in all parts of the city, resulting in over 300 individual audits conducted during the month of September.

For the month of October, DC VOICE is asking for your help to reach our goal of raising $10,000. The overwhelming response to our call for volunteers and additional training sites has resulted in a much larger budget than in previous years. Any money raised this month will be matched by the Ford Foundation and applied directly to ensuring quality production and distribution of a report worthy of its participants and community spirit. With your help, DC VOICE can reach our goal!   Please utilize our website www.dcvoice.org or go directly to http://partners.guidestar.org/controller/searchResults.gs?action_donateReport=1&partner=networkforgood&ein=30-0180184 to donate.   No gift is too modest.

Green Eggs & Ham

SAVE THE DATE! Please join us on October 13th at 11am to uncover the initial findings of the 2007 Ready Schools Project at the Green Eggs and Ham Volunteer Breakfast.  This is our chance to formally thank and congratulate all the volunteers who collectively made the 2007 Ready Schools Project a possibility. The informational session will include a report on the status of the Ready Schools Project, as well as volunteer feedback. It is our hope to gather the faces and voices which particpated in this community action research project and have them inform the direction and priorities of the Project Report. The precise location will be povided next week.  We look forward to seeing everyone there!
