"Hey, I should write that down... Can I borrow your pen?"
Have you ever heard that one? I have. It happens to all of us. We get ideas or learn something new, but we're not sitting at our desk where we could actually handle it right then and there.
Here are 3 ways to have an idea now and do something about it later.
1. I used to call my own voicemail to leave myself a message at work. It works, but it's not as efficient as I'd like. Now, I call Jott. Using a toll-free number, I leave a message and minutes later that message is transcribed and waiting in my E-mail inbox! You can even "Jott" someone else! It's that easy, and it's free.
2. Back when I was in school, I cut up 3X5 notecards and put them in my back pocket. Writing an idea was always an option. Today, I use a capture-ready wallet that includes a pen, small paper pad and room for business cards. (Available from www.TheNew LongTerm.com - and, if you buy the pink one like this a portion of the proceeds is donated to the To Celebrate Life Foundation!)
3. Advanced techies only: Okay, if you've got the gear, really put it to good use. I shoot pictures with my digital camera instead of writing notes. This is the fastest way to get data digital. Click here to see an example (click in the middle of the video).
Try one of these (or all three) and let us know how successful you are in implementing your ideas!
