An Evening of Fine Food & Entertainment
...and a little help for the Cultural Council
As most of you know, it has been, and is still, a very difficult time for non-profit organizations - particularly those in the Arts. We at the Cultural Council have been able to survive through the generosity of a (very) few people, a little grant here and there, and maybe $100 or so per month from our partnership with Arts YOUniverse in the Arts Seen Gallery on Public Square, but if we are to be a truly effective force in support of the arts and cultural activities in Luzerne County, we need a little more to work with. I tell people we can do a great deal with very little, but we do need a little!
For example, this newsletter, which goes to just under 5,000 people and has by all measures been well received, costs us about $500 per year. Mounting a juried exhibit, which we try to do once a year, costs between one and two thousand dollars. Like all non-profits, we have accounting and insurance expenses, web site costs, printing - you get the idea. Our volunteers who help us in our work, especially our board of directors, invest a lot of time and expense for travel to meetings on a regular basis. Unlike our friends in Lackawanna County, we receive no local governmental support for our work.
But we love what we do! (And we think you do as well.)
So now we have a unique opportunity to have a little fun, some great food and drink, and raise a little money to keep us going. On Sunday evening, September 12th, we're hosting a little gathering at the incomparable Really Cooking, in Dallas. We're asking for a tax deductible cover charge of $25 per person, plus your cost for dinner and drinks. So for about $100, you can have a night out for two that will be truly memorable, and know that you are doing your part to support the mission of your county's cultural Council.
If you haven't experienced Really Cooking and the truly delightful entertainment of Kelly Briggs and Gregory Allen, then this is an event not to be missed, and if you have had this experience, then no more sales pitch is needed from me!
