We receive a great many emails with events for our newsletter. We wish we could include them all. Here's how to increase the likelihood of being included:
We like to copy and paste directly from your email to our newsletter, so please use plain text (or unadorned HTML) in your emails to us.
Include everything essential, but try to limit your notice to a paragraph or two. Be sure to include your location, date(s) and time, contact information and whether the event is free (provide prices if not).
It's ok to attach an image, but we may not have room for it. It helps if the image is small (maximum 200 x 200), but we can resize it if necessary.
Feel free to include a link for more information!
Try to send well in advance - preferably two weeks - but send anyway - we may have room at the last minute. As of yet, we don't have a regular schedule, but we're aiming for every two weeks.
Over 5,000 people receive our news-letter, and the list is growing. You can help us by forwarding it to folks - an easy way to inform them about YOUR event! (See the"Forward" link at the bottom of the newsletter.)

Get on the BUS!
The Wyoming Valley Art League
is sponsoring a bus trip to Storm King Art Center, Mountainville, NY, and Dia Beacon,
Riggio Galleries, Beacon, NY, Saturday, June 19,
leaving 7:30 a.m. from the SEARS parking area, Wyoming Valley Mall, Wilkes-Barre.
"Storm King Art
Center is a museum that celebrates the relationship between sculpture
and nature. Five hundred acres of landscaped lawns, fields and woodlands
provide the site for postwar sculptures by internationally renowned
artists. At
Storm King, the exhibition space is defined by sky and land.
Unencumbered by
walls, the subtly created flow of space is punctuated by modern
sculpture. The
grounds are surrounded by the undulating profiles of the Hudson
Highlands, a
dramatic panorama integral to the viewing experience. The sculptures are
affected by changes in light and weather, so no two visits are the same."
Leave Storm King at 2pm
to arrive at the contemporary art museum Dia
Beacon, Beacon, NY. For a 3:00p.m. group tour of the premises, to
be enlightened by works of artists and sculptors Andy Warhol, Robert
Smithson, Frank Stella, Donald Judd, and more!
Dinner at Alexis Diner Restaurant,
Newburgh, NY before returning home.

GET OUT THE VOTE!
It's almost over.... Maybe.
As most of you know, The Cultural Council has entered
into PepsiCo's "Pepsi Refresh Project" for a
chance to win a $50,000 grant. The grand prize will be used to fund
FREE, community events at the newly established River Common Park.
YOU can lend your support by voting for the Pepsi
grant idea, accessible through the river common website: www.rivercommon.org and by clicking the Pepsi Refresh Image located on the homepage.
But as of now, we're at 110. That doesn't sound so bad when you realize that we are competing against 1,340 other worthy projects. The bad news is that we have to be in the Top Ten to win and there's only three days left to vote - and here's where the MAYBE comes in...
IF we can make it to the Top 100, we automagically get entered into next month's running to try again. MAYBE it's not worth the effort. But maybe it is! It's hard to turn away from an opportunity to go after $50,000 without costing anything.
So you tell us! If you think it's worth it - vote to get us into the top 100. It's as simple as that. We have three days to go up ten places in the ranks. So if you think we can do it. Vote every day; drag all the folks away from your holiday barbecue to vote, and keep us in the running. Here's that link again: www.rivercommon.org
However it turns out, I'll have more to say about it next week, along with a look ahead at RiverFest 2010 - June 18-20th.
