Help Us Help You!

We receive a great many emails with events for our newsletter.  We wish we could include them all.  Here's how to increase the likelihood of being included:

  • Put your event on the WVIA ArtScene calendar.  We're sure to find it.  Just click Submit an event to the ArtScene calendar and fill in the blanks!
  • We like to copy and paste directly from your email to our newsletter, so please use plain text (or unadorned HTML) in your emails to us.
  • Include everything essential, but try to limit your notice to a paragraph or two.  Be sure to include your location, date(s) and time, contact information and whether the event is free (provide prices if not).
  • It's ok to attach an image, but we may not have room for it.  It helps if the image is small (maximum 200 x 200), but we can resize it if necessary.
  • Feel free to include a link for more information!
  • Try to send well in advance - preferably two weeks - but send anyway - we may have room at the last minute.  As of yet, we don't have a regular schedule, but we're aiming for every two weeks.
  • Over 4,000 people receive our news-letter, and the list is growing.  You can help us by forwarding it to folks - an easy way to inform them about YOUR event!  (See the"Forward" link at the bottom of the newsletter.)

Greetings! ,

From the Executive Director

We continue, in this newsletter, to rely on the WVIA ArtScene Events Calendar for the broadest listing of cultural events in the region over the next couple of weeks.

To make this work, we remind all venues to post their events to the calendar.  It's easy - all you have to do is go to the Events Submission page and put in your stuff!

It's not too late to sign up for our bus trip to the Roberson Museum to see Visions of the Susquehanna - 250 Years of American Masters.  See below for more information.

In this issue we also report on our very successful kayak trip on the Susquehanna for artists, and we try out a new feature - a slide show of last Sunday's adventure!  We are most grateful to Frank Kratz of
Susquehanna River Adventures for collaborating with the Cultural Council on this event, and it was such a success that's it's likely we'll do it again soon!  Of course, we'll keep you posted.

And don't miss our featured event - an opening for an exquisite exhibition of photographs by Philip A Dente at the MAC Gallery in Scranton.

Please consider forwarding this newsletter to someone you know who might like to receive it.  Just click on the "forward email" link at the bottom.

Thank you!

Inspired by the Susquehanna!

Last Sunday, nearly twenty people joined us for a kayak trip from Harding to Wyoming.  This event was a kick-off, of sorts, for a summer-long focus on the river we all think we know so well.  Click on our slide show and see if you've ever experienced the Susquehanna like this!

These events, including, the RiverFest celebration on June 20th through 22nd (more on that in a future newsletter) will culminate in a statewide juried exhibition in October, titled Inspired by the Susquehanna.  More information on that to come as soon as we have the dates nailed down.  We are most pleased to announce that the exhibition will be held in the Luzerne County Court House with, of course, a gala opening reception.
