Waterloo Schools Accepting Musical Instruments
In an effort to help students experience the joy of playing music, the Waterloo Community Schools has announced a campaign to collect gently used instruments for use by students in the district. Donated instruments will be refurbished and then loaned to students.

Community volunteer and long-time arts patron Dave Buck lent his advice and expertise to this project, which includes seeking financial support of instrument repair. "I believe that all interested students should have the opportunity to experience the joy of music," says Dave. "We are hopeful that the community shares our enthusiasm and supports this effort."

Elementary music educators, Kathy McCormack and Cheryl Moore are also assisting with the project.

"Music is such an important part of everyone's life and the sooner our children are exposed to it, the better," said Kathy.

"Research proves greater success in academics for students involved in music. It is a tool that stimulates growth in a variety of ways besides teaching discipline, teamwork, and dedication. It breaks my heart when a child is denied the opportunity to participate because of difficulty obtaining an adequate instrument. This opportunity is a wonderful avenue of bridging that gap."

Instruments may be dropped off at any Waterloo School where a donation receipt will be provided to the donor. Tax deductible donations are also being accepted for instrument repair by making checks payable to the Waterloo Community Schools, and sent to district offices at 1516 Washington Street, Waterloo, IA  50702, attn. Community Education Office.
