Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)helps people prepare and e-file basic tax returns for free. As of March 1, 201 tax returns have been filed through VITA sites in the Cedar Valley.

You, your family, co-workers, neighbors or friends may qualify for Earned Income Tax Credits up to $4,824 if you earn less than $40,000 in 2008.

How do you claim it? File a tax return at Eastside Ministerial Alliance or Operation Threshold and have your taxes e-filed for free. Call 2-1-1, the information and referral line funded by United Way to schedule an appointment today.

To qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit:
Earned income and adjusted gross income in 1008 must each be less than:
  • $38,646 ($41,646 married filing jointly) with two or more qualifying children
  • $33,995 ($36,995 married filing jointly) with one qualifying child
  • $12,880 ($15,880 married filing jointly) with no qualifying children.

Free tax preparation services are sponsored by the Financial Education Committee of the Cedar Valley in conjunction with ISED Ventures, Eastside Minesterial Alliance, Operation Threshold, Cedar Valley's Promise, Cedar Valley United Way and the IRS.
