Working Toward a Better Future |
Quality preschool education has been identified nationwide as a key element in school readiness as well as a strong component in breaking the cycle of poverty. Cedar Valley Preschool and Child Care Center collaborates with other local agencies to provide for the needs of young children-good nutrition, exercise, nurturing, and a strong, inclusive preschool program with additional support provided for those children with special needs.
Cedar Valley Preschool and Child Care Center receives funding from your contributions to Cedar Valley United Way for early childhood scholarships that allow children from low-income families to attend the Center. Here is the story of one of the scholarship recipients: Buoyant energy, a curious nature, and endless questions describe "Nicky," age three. He has had a turbulent life, enduring his parents' recovery from drug addiction and separation, financial struggles, and a mother trying to raise five active boys alone. He currently receives speech therapy at our Center from AEA-267 and is scheduled to be evaluated for behavioral challenges (limited attention span, challenging interactions with peers). He is a capable child who has made strides in communications and acquiring new skills. His involvement at our Center provides a safe, nurturing environment with a consistent routine. He is supported by caring staff. His mother has received a variety of community referrals and information. His older brothers attend our Center on days school is closed and his toddler brother will attend when he's two. The family has found resources and support to stabilize their circumstances and work toward a better future.
