CREATIVELY SPEAKING ABOUT THE LATEST CREATIVE NEWS
Greetings!
Welcome to November!
We went a little picture happy this past month and documented many events in photo form. Read the captions below to see where we went and what we did!
On October 31st we welcomed Kristin Burwell to our team as Talent Coordinator. Kristin will be responsible for finding and building long-term relationships with new talent appropriate for our clients. Kristin comes to us with a background in marketing and new business development. Additionally, she'll be the incoming 2012 co-president of Columbus Society of Communicating Arts. Welcome, Kristin!
We also released an article on how the IRS will allow you to reclassify independent contractors to avoid tax penalties. Check it out here. And last but not least, we were very honored to be included on the 2011 Business First Fast 50 list. We previously made the list in 2008 and 2009.

The Unlikely Candidate - Clues Companies Miss When Looking for the Perfect Hire
Catherine Lang-Cline, Owner
"Someone with lots of potential who receives regular positive feedback and added responsibilities may be a stronger contributor to your department than someone with more experience who hits a glass ceiling immediately and has nowhere to go."
We've all heard the old sayings "first impressions are lasting ones" or "you never get a second chase to make a first impression." For the most part this is good advice and in this electronic age it can be especially important.
Take email for example, job candidates should always think about how they are being perceived. Does your email address sound like it is coming from a professional or a young teenager? It may be time to drop the hotlady@ or badboy@ for something more straightforward and professional. Not only does it give a better impression to have a professional email address, you also don't want your correspondence going into spam folders (or worse being ignored entirely).
If your heart is set on forever being a badboy@ keep it for your friends and family and get a new address for your job search. It's time to make a BIG boy/girl first impression!
"The main draw for independent workers is perceived freedom-they feel that they have more control over their schedule and career path. While some have chosen independent work as an opportunity to earn more money, most say they are driven by passion for the work they do and contributions they make more than money."
We have a busy month ahead! In addition to attending Creative Best, here are a few other places you'll find us:
