The Alto Adige is one of the most unique terroirs of Italy, a place where boundaries and lines can become blurred - culturally, viticulturally, and politically. Located in the foothills south of the Alps, the vineyards of this region surround and cradle the River Adige as it carves its way toward the shores of Lake Garda before turning east and flowing through the plains of the Veneto. The people who make their homes in the hills and valleys of this region, while legal citizens of the Italian Republic, have traditions and ancestry deeply rooted in the culture of their Germanic brethren on the other side of the mountains.
