OUR MEMBERS ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Joan Staker of Time to Stage and Sue Lynk of Lynk Home Transformations, both in Illinois, just completed a Christmas decorating projects for WINGS (Women In Need Getting Stronger) shelter.
Joan sent the following story to share with SDP members:

We were so inspired by Terry Grahl's story at the SDP Conference.  She has made such a difference in so many women's lives at the Hopeful Haven Shelter in Michigan. Hearing Terry's story made us wonder what we could do to make someone's Christmas brighter.  Both of us knew of  WINGS in Chicago's Northwest suburbs. WINGS Program, Inc. provides shelter, education, guidance and support for abused and homeless women and their children.

After checking on line, we contacted the Donations Coordinator, Dawn Martorano.  We learned that there was a transitional home in need of holiday decorating.  Women and their children stay in transitional houses for six months to two years, while they get on their feet, and learn to support themselves.  Mothers move from a group transitional home to individual apartments after they have full time jobs and are able pay a portion of the rent.  The WINGS mission statement is "to provide a continuum of integrated services, in an effort to end domestic violence and homelessness, one family at a time."

One never knows how or when we might impact the lives of others. Collecting donations, Joan stopped by Wal-Mart to pick up theirs.  A young woman working at the service desk  asked what the Wings program was. It just so happens that the 22 year old mother of two, who works full time at Walmart, is homeless. Joan was able to get her in contact with the Wings crisis line.  We hope she was able to get into one of their shelters.  We'll contact her to see how she is doing.  That synchronistic experience, alone, made contributing our time, service and resources to this project memorable.

Many times we have read  in the SDP Monday Motivation and been reminded that we are not only Decorators, Redesigners  or Color Consultants, amazingly, we change people's lives, heal the human spirit, and influence how clients feel about their homes. That, to us, is worth more than a pay check.  It is truly what our work it is about.

Sincerely,
Joan & Sue

Christmas Decorating in Full Swing!

DesAnn Collins, owner of Design By DesAnn from Elyria, OH was the Decorator for this year's  Finwood Estate for the Holidays.  As such, DesAnn appeared on Fox8 with Robin Swoboda in "That's Life" on Thursday,  Dec 6th.

"I wanted to spread the word about Finwood in hopes that we can increase our donations of non-perishable food items this year.  Finwood is Fantastical", said DesAnn.  "There are nearly one million lights outside, Santa, garden railway trains, indoor trains, fabulous decorating ideas and much, much more!"

Below are a few of the rooms that DesAnn created.

Whether you're decorating inside or out, Christmas time gives us plenty of opportunity to be abundant with creativity.

Sometimes it's the the added fun of feathers and snowflakes that make the arrangement feel fresh and new.

On A Personal Note...

We recently received this e-mail from Vicki Macenka, of -- in Midlothian, Va and called her to ask if we could share it with all of you.  She said she'd welcome everyone's prayers:

Vicki Macenka

Dear Friends,

Just a quick note from me  to personally fill you in on
a health issue I am having.

After countless tests and biopsys I have been diagnosed with what the Doctors believe is stage 2 bladder cancer. Even though we are shocked, I am relieved to finally
have answers to a problem that has caused me great discomfort for many months.

Next week Mark and I will meet with a team of doctors to determine my course of treatment
which will probably start in Janurary.

I want you to know, I am not afraid  and am resting in the comfort and peace that knowing the Lord has to offer. With his grace I know I will get through this.

Because I am a firm believer in the power of prayer please include us in yours and any prayer groups you know of.
Please pray my children will be surrounded with the glory of the lord and the peace and comfort he has to offer as they know their mommy will be cured of this "disease"; which we are calling it.

Also, please pray for me  as we embark on a course of treatment by asking him to put me in the hands of the kindest and most skilled doctors and nurses at St Francis.
(I LOVE that place)

AND .....HA HA ....for my husband, Mark, who got a little woozy at the hospital. He passed out, hit his head on the granite floor, was reported as a "code blue" then strapped to a stretcher and  was off to the ER for treatment. He came out of it in perfect condition..... and is allowing us all a good laugh......doctors, nurses and floor staff, he thinks it is funny too, by the way.

So, as you ponder what you have just read, remember, I am not afraid and have the faith in the Lord that I need to get through all of this.

Send notes, love, and prayers of healing my way. I want to know when you are thinking of me/us.

Joyfully Yours and Lots of Love,
Vicki
