Charlotte Gerson to be the first Inductee in the ALIVE Foundation's Hall of Fame
For Charlotte ninety is just the beginning! Less than a week after we celebrated Charlotte's 90th birthday, the Institute received an email from the ALIVE Foundation in New York letting us know that, after reviewing several different nominees, the Foundation wished to honor Charlotte by having her be the first inductee in the Foundation's Hall of Fame in recognition of "her outstanding achievements & incredible work in humanity."
Charlotte will be honored during the 2012 ALIVE Awards as part of the Foundation's two day conference June 29-30 in New York City. The conference will include a wide variety of experts on health and wellness - including Dr. Gonzalez, Dr. Burzynski and Brendan Bazier - and proceeds benefit the ALIVE Foundation and it's work with charities like the American Anti-Cancer Institute. The ALIVE Foundation is dedicated to promoting empowerment of people, protection of the environment, and raising awareness of the body's self-healing abilities.

Charlotte's 90th Birthday Celebration
|
On Sunday, March 25th, 170 wellness-minded, forward-thinking, and positive people gathered together in one place for a very special occasion: Charlotte Gerson's 90th birthday celebration. It was a beautiful evening filled with warm tributes, good friends, music and lots of carrot juice! Even those who weren't at the party joined in by appearing on a video birthday card shown to all in attendance. You can view this touching tribute to Charlotte below, as well as read all about the party and view a slideshow of the night on our blog: Celebrating Charlotte: Charlotte Gerson's 90th Birthday Party

Recently the Gerson Institute staff helped in the planting of an organic orchard in Charlotte's honor, at Wild Willow Farm in San Diego, in partnership with San Diego Roots Sustainable Food Project. San Diego Roots is a local non-profit organization that promotes sustainable, affordable organic agriculture in San Diego County - a mission that aligns quite nicely with our own.
Access to organically grown fruits and vegetables is an absolute necessity for people on the Gerson Therapy. In planting the Charlotte Gerson Legacy Garden, we are doing our part to make organic produce accessible and affordable to our local San Diego community.

It happens to everyone at some point or another, especially when you're just starting to do coffee enemas. On occasion, one may experience difficulty holding the coffee enema for the full recommended 12-15 minutes. You might experience some cramping, intestinal distress, gas, or spasms that send you running to the toilet before you've even managed to take in the full solution (don't worry; we won't go into graphic detail!)
So what do you do if you find yourself in this situation? Fear not, we've come up with a list of tips and tricks for you, in case you find yourself unable to hold an enema.

A Tribute To Charlotte
| Eric Freeman, our Assistant Chef who spent several months cooking and juicing for Charlotte and her family at home, gave a moving tribute to Charlotte at her 90th Birthday Party. Eric, pondered what had motivated Charlotte to keep going, and to keep fighting to educate others about the Gerson Therapy:
I feel that I have begun to understand what makes a woman work so hard, and for so long. It's not the money, I can tell you that much. I don't know many women as humble as Charlotte.
I don't think it was just for fun either, though I'm sure there have been many great times. No, it's something else.
The only thing I can think it could be is love.
But not your ordinary love like we have for those close to us, although this is an important love too. This love is so big and so strong that 90 years of living among us hasn't been enough to wear her down. This is a superhuman kind of love, a love for all of life itself. This is a love that doesn't come around as often as it should.
We are all aware of the beautiful things Charlotte has said and done over her lifetime, but there is one particular thing I've seen Charlotte do that I think best exemplifies who she is; when Charlotte gets really excited about something, she does what can almost be described as a little dance. She smiles warmly, her eyes shine big and bright and she sort of bends forward and shakes her arms back and forth. I swear when she does this she looks just like a little kid again. Each of the times I've witnessed it I'm left wondering, how could this be? How could a woman who has seen and overcome so much still have such unbridled zest for life? Again, it must be this love Charlotte carries with her. And she has done a remarkable job giving it back to everyone.
