Greetings! |
Sunday, March 27th marked Charlotte Gerson's 89th birthday. To celebrate this amazing lady's life and legacy, we held an intimate and informal party near her home in San Diego. Friends, family, and our dedicated volunteers came out to join in the festivities, and brought healthy goodies to the potluck meal. We've posted photos of Charlotte's 89th birthday on The Gerson Institute's Facebook page. Check them out here! "I was greatly moved and enjoyed the huge number of birthday cards I received. They came from former patients, friends, Gerson supporters, customers, suppliers, volunteers, caregivers -- an unending number. Thank you all for your care and beautiful, colorful, kind and happy cards and birthday wishes.
May all the good wishes also enrich your lives and the knowledge of Gerson keep you well and happy!" Charlotte Gerson

Gerson Patient Updates |
Jess Ainscough, a Gerson patient in Australia who writes the blog Wellness Warrior, continues to provide prolific amounts of valuable information. Lately she has been doing some interviews with radio stations and magazines in Australia, spreading the good word about Gerson.
She was featured in Profile Magazine appearing on the cover wearing a "dress" made entirely from cabbage leaves. ABC Sunshine Coast recently interviewed The Wellness Warrior for an aptly titled radio program "The Inspirational Jess Ainscough." She also has a great article on her blog all about the importance of PH balance, which foods cause acidity, and which promote alkalinity.
We are so thankful to Jess for sharing her wisdom and experience with others. She has become a wonderful source of inspiration and information for many patients on the Gerson Therapy, and for many others looking to adopt or maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Update on Crude Liver for Injections |

At this time, the crude liver for injection is no longer available. It is not known when or if it will be available from another source in the future. For now we are making the following recommendations.
Take an extra desiccated liver capsule per dose, if one's stomach tolerates it. In total, a patient may take three caps of dessicated liver, three times a day. If this causes stomach upset, the liver caps can be taken with meals, when the digestive enzymes are taken. B-12 can be taken orally or sublingually at 1000 mcg daily or alternatively a 1 cc injection per week.
Crude liver for injections is available at some compounding pharmacies in the US, but requires a doctor's prescription. If you can obtain this, it will be of a higher concentration, so check with the Gerson Institute to see if the dosage needs to be adjusted.
Milk Thistle, an herb which is hepatoprotective and hepatorestorative, can be taken periodically at 250 mg twice a day between meals. It should be an extract standardized to 80% silimarin. This can provide extra support for the liver.

Upcoming Documentaries |
Don't miss these new documentaries that showcase the power of a plant-based diet.
100 pounds overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, Joe Cross is at the end of his rope. FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD is an inspiring film that chronicles Joe's personal mission to regain his health. With doctors and conventional medicines unable to help long term, Joe turns to the only option left, the bodyʼs ability to heal itself. He trades in the junk food and hits the road with juicer and generator in tow, vowing only to drink fresh fruit and vegetable juice for the next 60 days. Across 3,000 miles Joe has one goal in mind: To get off his pills and get healthy.
While talking to more than 500 Americans about food, health and longevity, itʼs at a truck stop in Arizona where Joe meets a truck driver who suffers from the same rare condition. Phil Staples is morbidly obese weighing in at 429 lbs. He is a cheeseburger away from a heart attack. As Joe is recovering his health, Phil begins his own epic journey to get well. What emerges is nothing short of amazing - an inspiring tale of healing and human connection. Part road trip, part self-help manifesto, FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD defies the traditional documentary format to present an unconventional and uplifting story of two men from different worlds who each realize that the only person who can save them is themselves. |trailer| |screenings| FORKS OVER KNIVES examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods.
The major storyline traces the personal journeys of Dr. T. Colin Campbell, a nutritional biochemist from Cornell University, and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, a former top surgeon at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic. Inspired by remarkable discoveries in their young careers, these men conducted several groundbreaking studies. Their separate research led them to the same startling conclusion: degenerative diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and even several forms of cancer, could almost always be prevented-and in many cases reversed-by adopting a whole foods, plant-based diet. Despite the profound implications of their findings, their work has remained relatively unknown to the public.
Bringing these scientific concepts to life, cameras follow "reality patients" who have chronic conditions from heart disease to diabetes, and are taught by their doctors to adopt a whole foods plant-based diet as the primary approach to treat their ailments. The film features leading experts on health and tackles the issue of diet and disease in a way that will have people talking for years. |trailer| |screenings|

Your Letters |
I do not have a question, I just want to say thank you. I am deeply inspired by the Gerson diet and way of life. I decided August 30, 2010 to become a vegan. Since then I could have never guessed what was in store for me. Luckily to Netflix I discovered your documentaries just a month or so ago and it has changed my life. The way I raise my son who is 3 years old has forever been changed. I know I will never have the divine privilege to meet Charlotte Gerson but she is an amazing woman. I am sure her father is looking down on her, beyond proud of the work she has carried on in his name.
My father has had extremely poor health for the past ten years or so. He has kept much of his illness away from his family. However, I do know that just from incorporating juicing into his diet he has gone from needing multiple pain killers to get through the day/night, and now he has noticed himself NEEDING LESS PAIN KILLERS due to the juicing.
I find myself just watching your documentaries for continued inspiration. This has brought a peace over my life that I cannot explain. This way of life feels like what I've been missing/searching for my whole life, like I've been on the brink of it; needing it since I can remember. I am not sick; I am fairly healthy but with this way of life I hope to never have any chronic diseases. And I pray the same for my son. Thank you so much. This world has been changed because of you .
Thank you so much
