There are two things we love at our house (besides food): our Lord Jesus Christ and reading. Reading to our daughters, even from infancy, has always been a priority. It has allowed us to bond, teach, spend quality time together, and impart our beliefs to our children. We have also strived to teach our girls about the salvation the Lord has to offer and how we should serve and glorify Him. When we were offered the opportunity to combine two of our favorite things, we couldn't resist.
During spring break my husband, David, Kyndal, age 9, Candice, age 7, and I spent a few hours each day prayer walking, holding Come Eat and Read signs, serving food, helping kids decorate and fill book cases, talking with guests and reading to kids. | Kyndal serving at the family reading fair |
It warmed our hearts to see Kyndal sitting on a blanket with a two-year-old little girl reading a book to her, and Candice so eager to hand someone a cookie. But an even prouder moment came when I was able to hand a little girl one of the same Bibles that our girls have grown up reading. I can just imagine that little girl sitting in her mom's lap while she listens to her read the Bible. All the amazing stories she will hear: how God made the world, Joseph and the great plan God had for him and his family, the birth of our Lord Jesus, how Jesus healed the lame, fed the hungry, comforted those who needed encouragement, and how Jesus died on the cross and rose again. Hopefully, one day she will be reading those same stories back to her mom. Our family was blessed to be a part of the Lord's work through Literacy Connexus and cannot wait to work with them again. We are even more blessed to know that the Lord will take the simple gift of books and a bookcase to build up families and improve literacy. David, Melinda, Kyndal & Candice Burch FBC Copperas Cove
