First Baptist Church Copperas Cove has traded in Sunday school classes for Connection Groups. Adults and children, alike, have taken up the challenge to connect to God, believers, ministry, and the world.

The fifth and sixth grade boys' class has joined with Literacy Connexus to connect to families who lack books. Adopting the theme, Read For Your Life!  the boys have learned that books in the home is a blessing not every child experiences.

"Read For Your Life! means read the Bible to save your life," Josh Smith explains.

Copperas Cove boysThe boys understand that without books,  children have less chance of learning to read; and without learning to read, the Bible becomes inaccessible. "Plus, I wouldn't even have a favorite book if I couldn't read," Josh points out.

"My mom used to read to me and the baby when she was pregnant, and I could feel the baby kick," Triston Reens says. "I don't remember me not being able to read."

The boys are building bookcases and collecting books to give to local families at a reading fair later in the year. In the meantime, they know there are things they can do right now to make a difference.

"My mom helps in Pre-K," Carson Lapierre says, "I'm going to go there and tell them what we are doing." "And," adds Josh, "tell them to read to the little ones."
