If We Stop Spending, Will it Usher in the Great Depression? By Evan Matthews, a Hoosier Libertarian
"Spend now, while the economy remains depressed; save later, once it has recovered. How hard is that to understand?"
Thus begins Paul Krugman's June 20 article. The answer to his
question is that it's quite difficult if we are living in reality. When
speaking in simplified, self-righteous rhetoric, this concept is indeed
simple to grasp. When dealing with the reality of American politics,
however, it becomes much more elusive.
Mr. Krugman's thinking is at best naïve and at worst hopelessly
misguided and harmful. His thesis is that in the future some
politician-somewhere-will endorse and initiate a movement of austerity
that will help this nation right its fiscal ship and become solvent once
more.

Why This Libertarian Supports the Indy Water Transfer
(The Indianapolis City-County Council recently voted to sell the Indy water and sewer system to Citizens Energy. Libertarian At-Large Councilman Ed Coleman voted in favor of the proposal. To find out more about Ed, please visit his website.)
By Matt Wittlief
This past Monday, the City-County Council voted to approve the
transfer of water and wastewater utilities to Citizen's Energy Group.
The deal is very complex and convoluted - perhaps by design, perhaps by
necessity. My opinions on the deal have varied, but in the end, I
support the transfer, but not the entire deal.

Notable Quotes
"It becomes all therefore who are friends of a Government based on
free principles to reflect, that by denying the possibility of a system
partly federal and partly consolidated, and who would convert ours into
one either wholly federal or wholly consolidated, in neither of which
forms have individual rights, public order, and external safety, been
all duly maintained, they aim a deadly blow at the last hope of true
liberty on the face of the Earth."- James Madison, Notes on Nullification

ABOUT THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY
The Libertarian Party is America, and Indiana's, third largest political
party founded in 1971 as an alternative to the two main political
parties. Its vision is for a world in which all individuals can freely
exercise the natural right of sole dominion over their own lives,
liberty and property by building a political party that elects
Libertarians to public office, and moving public policy in a libertarian
direction.
The Libertarian Party of Indiana was formed in 1974, and has maintained
ballot access since 1994. Sam Goldstein, an Indianapolis resident,
currently serves as Chairman. Learn what we stand for here. |
