Warm Greetings for the New Year!
2010 is almost here, and with it comes a sense of renewal! Working with parents and teachers to find solutions for children's behavior continues to be my passion. I hold the steadfast conviction that given the right environmental, communication, and nutritional conditions, children with behavior issues can shine!
This month we're going to focus on the environmental solution to helping kids with challenging behaviors. I touch on a topic that may be a bit controversial, but as a child/parent advocate, I want to dive in to let you in on a powerful story. In the past few months, I have had parents contact me to say that switching schools made all the difference for their intense kids. Where they were failing, in trouble with behavior, and being suspended consistently, they are now enjoing their educational experience and getting A's and B's. It's hard to ignore these stories, especially when depression was a very real issue for these kids. Can a change of environment really make that much difference? Yes, it can. |
Switching Schools: How It's Helped
At times it's just healthy to admit that the environment might be causing problems with, and even contributing to, extreme behaviors in kids. Especially bright, active boys have a hard time conforming to the structure of most schools the way they are set up.
Recently I received a fantastic success story from an utterly dedicated and remarkable dad who had been my client 7 years ago, about his son's success in a new school. I want to share it with you here, with permission and the names changed (but nothing else.) You will be amazed at the transformation that occurred in "Jack's" life when his family found the right school for him.
