Beautiful Tootsies
April 2009

It's Spring and aren't you enjoying the Greening of the landscape? Everyone is expressing  their inner  Horticulturists and I am loving the flowers popping up all over (be sure and see the Flower Show at Macy*s.  It's a real gem).  This is all sweet until you decide to tip toe through the daisies.  What has been going on with those feet since they have been couped up inside our shoes all winter!?  Just like the rose bush there is a corn, callous, or that funky pinky toenail needs some pruning.
LGM! wants to get those toes sunshine ready for the honeymoon and you won't have to play footsie in your socks.

Foot Jewelry
After all that foot pampering.  It's time to doll them up with some jewelry of their own.
Beaded with small clear glass beads and crystals with no pair the same.  They are comfortable enough to wear with some sandals but it's the glamour you add to your beach/pool side stroll.
The beaded is regularly $45 but for my readers $40 to start  that beach wedding off right.

Begin With The Big Toe

If the last pedicure you had was right before the last BBQ of 2008, you are due.  Like I mentioned before, you have a number of calluses and corns that have had a few months to develop.  Heading straight to your favorite nail salon may be your first thought, but save the cash and create a home spa with some simple steps using natural products.
  1. Start with a basin large enough to comfortably hold your feet.
  2. Place a folded bath towel at the bottom of the basin.  Your feet will rest nicely on the towel
  3. Fill with hot water and a 1/2 cup of Epsom salts, also a few capfuls of Herbal Vapors, the best contain eucalyptus, rosemary, and menthol (source:Natural Homemade Beauty Care Tips)
  4. Put on some great music and start with the big toe.  If the water is comfortable enough sit back and relax.  At least for about 10 to 15 minutes.
  5. Gently rub with a pumice stone the parts of the foot with calluses.  Don't try to make your feet soft like a baby's behind, it will take time to get the feet smooth.  For more instruction watch this video: How To Use A Pumice Stone.
  6. Pat the feet dry and rub with a great moisturizing lotion (Karen's Body Beautiful Shea Butter), or use petroleum jelly and wear socks to bed.
Do this a few times a week for the next few months.  Get your feet and yourself used to being pampered.

 Something's A Bit Fishy

Doctor Fish

I don't know if you have heard the latest in foot pampering, but here it is, Fish Pedicures.  Doctor fish is the name given to a tiny carp also called Garra rufa and Cyprinion macrostomus. Other nicknames include nibble fish, kangal fish, little dermatologists and doctorfishen.  In Turkey they have been used to help sufferers of psoriasis.  The fish nibble on the dead skin, leaving the skin a healthy glow.  Patients go back for repeated treatments and some have been cured, but the treatments serve only to relieve outbreaks.  Psoriasis is unpredictable and flare ups are uncomfortable, this remedy is a God send.

Fish Pedicure

Well, now this treatment has made it's way to spa's across the country.  Fish Pedicures are fast becoming all the rage.   Feet sit in baths of water for 15 to 30 minutes while the fish nibble the dead skin that builds up on the feet.  Owner of Yvonne Hair and Nails,  John Ho, came up with the idea when State regulations made razors and scrapers less favorable.  After considerable time and money Mr. Ho, got the tanks up and running.  The hot water that the fish swim do not support much aquatic life so the fish feed off of the dead skin.  They don't bother with the live skin, the fish have no teeth.
This may be odd but it is obviously effective.  Still questions remain.  Still there are more questions like, how are the fish cared for after each "feeding"?  Do the fish eventually grow teeth?  Can they pass and fungus from client to client.  Just like the women began to bring their own kits to the salons, maybe fishbowls of carp.  Better yet fire up the aquarium and have your own at home spa.
