MOVIE RATINGS BY UFP

The cost of going to see a film has changed. Take a date or the family and that's groceries for one week. So, as opposed to four outta five stars, UFP will provide ratings based on economics. The scale is still 1-5 with 5 being the best. Follow our system and you won't waste a dime.

MEN IN BLACK 3 is a STRONG 4.

Unbelievable. I loved "Men In Black 3." I say this is unbelievable because I normally think of any part III as being not worth my time. Recently, save "The Dark Knight," "Harry Potter," "Scream," and maybe a few others, most third installments normally fail to deliver. I could be jaded because I am still angry about "The Godfather Part III." Could have been so much more. But as soon as "MIB 3" started, I was drawn into the film's ability to pick up where part II ended. Not literally where part II ended, but the gumbo recipe was still in-tact and it works. "MIB 3" has new material, dialogue and plot that sustained the film throughout. Of course it would be easy to applaud Will Smith and Josh Brolin for commanding performances, but sci-fi fans owe a huge thank you to the writer Etan Cohen. And no, this is not Ethan Cohen from the famed creative team of Joel and Ethan Cohen. This scribe is Etan Cohen. Cohen has written for shows like "Beavis & Butthead" and co-wrote "Tropic Thunder." He cut his teeth writing for the Harvard Lampoon.

"MIB 3" basically has a simple question. What in the heck is up with Agent J (Will Smith) and Agent K's (Tommy Lee Jones) relationship? Why don't they know much about each other and will they ever seem like they enjoy each other's company? When Boris The Animal escapes from a lunar max prison, determined to annihilate earth and humankind, something must be done to stop him or it's lights out, planet earth.

Greetings!

Summer is here.  Are you ready? Is your mind ready to relax? Is your body ready for the beach? Are you ready for some good movies?  Film & TV fans should give Hollywood a thumbs up considering last year there wasn't much to talk about.  In fact, The Oscar winner, The Artist had no talking at all.  With Red Tails, Think Like A Man, The Avengers, Safe House, Act of Valor and The Dark Knight Rises on the way, Tinseltown has delivered.

What is even more exciting is the "independent" market appears to be back from the abyss.  One solid indie film we are excited about is The Obama Effect, coming to AMC Theaters on July 13.  The film was written and directed by Charles S. Dutton, and produced by Barry Hankerson and Harry Smith.  The film stars Dutton, Meagan Good and Katt Williams. We know audiences will love this smart, timely and serious film. Well, Katt Williams plays a Republican so laughs come early and often. Save the date. JULY 13.

Synopsis
Tyler Perry returns as America's favorite brash, no-holds-barred grandma in Lionsgate's TYLER PERRY'S MADEA'S WITNESS PROTECTION, an outrageous culture clash comedy that also stars Eugene Levy, Denise Richards and Doris Roberts.

For years, George Needleman (Levy), the gentle CFO of a Wall Street investment bank, has been living with his head in the clouds. His frustrated second wife, Kate (Richards), has reached her limit taking care of his senile mother, Barbara (Roberts). His teenage daughter, Cindy (Danielle Campbell), is spoiled beyond hope and his seven-year-old son, Howie (Devan Leos), wishes his father were around more. But George is finally forced to wake up when he learns that his firm, Lockwise Industries, has been operating a mob-backed Ponzi scheme - and that he's been set up as the fall guy.

Facing criminal charges and death threats from the mob, George and his entire family are put under witness protection in the safest place that Brian (Perry), a federal prosecutor from Atlanta, can think of...

His Aunt Madea's house down South.

As a result, Madea and her live-in brother, Uncle Joe (Perry), find themselves managing a completely dysfunctional family from Connecticut. But as George tries to solve the mystery behind Lockwise's finances, Madea whips the Needlemans into shape using her hilarious brand of tough love. And together, they realize they just might have what it takes to unite George's family, outsmart the mob and change everyone's lives for the better.

Featuring Perry's trademark blend of raucous comedy and emotional uplift, TYLER PERRY'S MADEA'S WITNESS PROTECTION is written and directed by Perry, and produced by Perry, Ozzie Areu and Paul Hall. The film also stars Romeo Miller, Tom Arnold, John Amos and Marla Gibbs.

SYNOPSIS:

From DreamWorks Pictures comes "People Like Us," a drama/comedy about family, inspired by true events, starring Chris Pine ("Star Trek") as Sam, a twenty-something, fast-talking salesman, whose latest deal collapses on the day he learns that his father has suddenly died. Against his wishes, Sam is called home, where he must put his father's estate in order and reconnect with his estranged family. In the course of fulfilling his father's last wishes, Sam uncovers a startling secret that turns his entire world upside down: He has a 30-year-old sister Frankie whom he never knew about (Elizabeth Banks). As their relationship develops, Sam is forced to rethink everything he thought he knew about this family--and re-examine his own life choices in the process.
