Grand Lake Montessori Announces December 16th, 2011
Construction in Gingko and Magnolia
Dear Families,
GLM is planning to redo the Lake Park classroom floors in a durable laminated flooring Dec 26 through Dec 30. The stairs, the landing, and the classrooms will appear considerably lighter. Future remodel plans include full scale painting and roman shades at the windows. Bill Wright is building new cabinets for the classroom materials. These will appear a few at a time.
The children will be told about the new floor coming next week. Magnolia children will be incorporated with their teachers into the Juniper classroom for those 5 construction days. The drop off is at 466 Chetwood St. during that week. Also, the Gingko children with their teachers will occupy the Camellia classroom in the Brown cottage during the remodeling.
GLM will wash the nap blankets of children attending those days, so that the children may bring their belongings to their temporary classrooms ahead of time on Friday Dec.23. The drive by drop off at 466 Chetwood is 8 to 8:45 every morning and either Bill Wright or Helen Campbell will greet your children.
Teacher vacations are rotated throughout the year. The teachers will email you what teachers are present during December optional school days.
We know you will appreciate the new look in Gingko and Magnolia.
Sincerely,
Helen Campbell

Camellia
Dear Camellia, The Camellia children have been very busy decorating their dreidels and wreaths. They are also making lots of snowflakes and practicing our holiday songs. The children are enjoying singing "Build a Little Snowman" and "Jingle Bells". The weather has been very cold. Please dress your child appropriately with long sleeves and a jacket. A big thank you to Sofia's dad, Travis, for helping make candles with the children. |
Gingko
With the Holidays are upon us, Ginkgo children are busy and excited. We have read many holiday stories about the pointsettia, Kwanzaa, The Nutcracker, and many more. We have worked very hard to transform our classroom into a festival of colors. We have even learned to wrap presents and make cards so please ask us for help. Our Sing-a-Long was a huge success. Thank you to the Ginkgo children and families for making it a night to remember. Have a Happy and Restful Holiday Season. We look forward to the New Year and all the exciting new activities to come. |
Jacaranda
Thank you to all our Jacaranda families for a wonderful and magical sing-a-long. We have so many people to thank for contributing to our holiday celebration. Firstly, we would like to thank Pam, Sam's mom, for helping the children decorate their candles. Thank you to Mike, Nico's dad, for helping the children make wrapping paper. The children loved using egg cartons to make jingle-bell ornaments, thank you to Helen, Lily and Gaby's grandma for helping. We would also like to thank Susie, Hattie's mom, for making salt dough decorations with the children. We wish you all very lovely and peaceful holidays and a happy New Year. |
Juniper
Holidays are important for many reasons. Juniper children enjoy sharing their family traditions and celebrating them during school time. There are many ways we honor your family traditions in the classroom. During the winter, we talk about how holidays bring a sense of light and joyfulness to the long, dark winter months. We also create a sense of community and a shared bond among the families of GLM through the warm coat drive and of course our Holiday sing-a-longs. |
Live Oak
The children have been busy decorating their classroom for the Holiday Sing-a-long. They made a paper chain so long that it went all the way around the classroom. They strung popcorn and cranberries with needle and thread. They strung fall leaves as well. And, as you know by now, they made candles to send home as holiday gifts for their families. In addition to all of these fun activities, we've been discussing with the children the winter season, focusing on the shorter days, the greater hours of darkness, and how this resulted in light being such an important element of the various holiday traditions. The Live Oak team wishes you and yours the very best during this season! |
Magnolia
The children worked very hard to prepare for Tuesday night's singalong. They handcrafted decorations, rehearsed songs along with the choreographed movements, and arranged the Magnolia classroom to accommodate for their friends and family. The children felt very proud and had a wonderful time sharing this special event with loved ones. The teachers would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you for bringing the love and light to Magnolia. |
Mulberry
This week the children were busy getting ready for our Holiday Sing-A-Long. The children made gingerbread cookies to share with their families. They rolled the dough and cut out bells. The children worked on making decorations for the classroom. They decorated dreidels, wreaths, and trees with stickers and made paper chains to hang. The children helped scoop sand into bags to create luminaras to light a path to our classroom. Families joined us for a cozy gathering and helped us sing our holiday songs.
