New Acquisitions at Boston Rare Maps

We are pleased to announce a number of new acquisitions at Boston Rare Maps, a selection of which is featured below.  Visit www.BostonRareMaps.com to explore these new additions to our virtual gallery.

We're also proud to be participating in the Boston International Antiquarian Book Fair, which takes place November 11-13, 2011 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.  Boston Rare Maps is exhibiting in Booth #205, and we'll be bringing an array of rare antique maps, plans, prints and broadsides to the show.

At right: Private Signals of the Merchants of Boston by John T. Smith.  112 flags in full color.  A spectacular print illustrating the flags of leading Boston merchant houses, flown at the mastheads of vessels to identify their owners.  The contrast of the geometric arrangement with the vivid color and sheer variety of the flags gives this piece of Boston history a most dramatic and pleasing appearance.

Additional new acquisitions include a richly decorative world map by Homann; a French and Indian War map of the Southeast; a Revolution-era map of New York, New Jersey and surrounding areas; a rare view of 18th-century Boston; an important 18th-century plan of New York City; a landmark chart of Narragansett Bay; a rare map of the island of Nantucket; a striking view of historic Minot's Ledge Light; the first-published map of Brookline, MA; and a wall map of the Casco Bay region.  Our entire gallery of newly acquired antique maps and prints is available to browse on our website at www.BostonRareMaps.com.
