How ready are you?

At the beginning of April, the Health Sciences Council conducted a Readiness Survey. The information gathered will help us plan activities to improve your group's preparedness prior to the move and to provide support to you after the move. A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the survey! A response rate of 44% provides a reliable snapshot of where we are today, and where we need to be.

Here's a quick snapshot of key findings:

  • 65% say the vision and benefits of ECHA have been well communicated.
  • 77% recognize their faculty or department's involvement in transition planning.
  • 55% feel they have been involved in preparing their work stations or teams for the transition.
  • 41% are not sure what impact the transition will have on their work areas.
  • 55% reported receiving timely, useful information; the remaining 45% did not.
  • This newsletter is one tool we'll be using to provide information updates as they become available. We are also refreshing the ECHA website to help you find practical details as you prepare for the coming transition; watch for the new site soon!  We'd love to hear your thoughts, your questions and suggestions.  Your best source for information specific to your group, including a detailed breakdown of the readiness survey, is your APO.

LEED

What is LEED?

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.  Like many other forward thinking institutions including the City of Edmonton, the Government of Canada and numerous campuses including Yale, the University of Alberta understands and supports the need for sustainable approaches to building design, construction and maintenance.

The Edmonton Clinic Health Academy is being built to meet LEED silver criteria; LEED assessment includes five key areas:

  • sustainable site development
  • water efficiency
  • energy efficiency
  • materials selection
  • indoor environmental quality

Smaller office spaces, common use areas, natural light and shared printing and copy areas all contribute to LEED certification.  Occupants in ECHA will be proud to work in an energy-efficient building, designed and built using sustainable building methodologies!
