News from Double Ewe

May 23, 2012

Hi folks!
For the spring/summer, I'm trying out something new with my newsletter:  shorter but a bit more frequent emails...say every two weeks or so.

One quick correction from our last newsletter:  the Crochet: Socks! class starts on June 13th, not June 6th as stated in the newsletter.

Today, we've got some project ideas for you, one new yarn, and a way to get a free Double Ewe tote bag.  Read on!

Memorial Day Hours

We're going to take an extra day off for Memorial Day weekend this year.  (Three-day weekend - yay!) So, Friday is your last chance to pop in the shop for your holiday weekend supplies. The scoop:

Friday, May 25th:  10:00 - 5:00
Saturday - Monday, Memorial Day:  Closed

Summer Hours Correction

In my last newsletter, there was a little snafu with my summer hours.  On Saturdays, ,we open at 9:00 (so come & knit with us early!).  Our  correct Summer Hours are:

Tuesday:  10 - 9

Wednesday & Thursday:  10 - 6

Friday:  10 - 5

Saturday:  9 - 3

Sunday & Monday:  closed

New Stuff

We have just one new yarn to share with you this week.   DungarEase fro Knit One Crochet Too was named for its faded denim look and ease of care:  machine wash & dry!   You'll love it like your favorite pair of jeans.  60% cotton, 40% acrylic 5 stitches per inch, generous 250 yard skeins.  Super soft and cozy - great for the whole family.

Fresh Off The Needles

My goal this spring and summer is to inspire you to knit a bit in the summer...maybe not as much as you usually do, but at least a bit.  Here are a few suggestions.

PatternRosette Scarflette (a free pattern)

Yarn:  Meriboo from Frog Tree Yarns, 2 skeins

Comments:  Meriboo is a blend of 70% merino wool and 30% bamboo, so this isn't really a summer scarf, BUT, it's a lovely yarn to work with and since it's a smallish scarf, it's still pleasant to knit in the warmer months.  The little flower & button are a nice touch.

 --------------------

Pattern:  Fixation Wrist Warmers (another freebie)

Yarn:  Fixation from Cascade Yarns, 1 ball

Comments:  Fingerless gloves in the summer?  If you've ever worked in a cold, air conditioned office, you'll understand the logic in these.  Fixation is a very stretchy cotton yarn in a sport weight, making these gloves lightweight and stretchy, so they hung your hands nicely.

--------------------

Pattern:  Child's Ballet Shrug  (and yet another freebie

Yarn:  Cotton Twirl, 4 - 6 balls

Comments:  Cotton Twirl is a blend of soft cotton with a touch of elastic nylon.  The cotton makes it breathable and cool, and the nylon elastic makes it hold it's shape nicely and it's very pleasant to knit with.  Cute, quick pattern.  Oh...and don't worry...my doll mannequin  now has some shorts & a tee shirt... no nakedness in the shop!

 --------------------

PatternSimple Things

Yarn:  Misti Handpaint Sock, 1 skein

Comments:  This scarf/shawl pattern is perfect to showcase a lovely yarn.  It can be worn point forward as above, or as a shawl in the traditional fashion.  Misti Handpaint Sock is a luxurious blend of alpaca,  merino wool and silk, and just one skein is needed.  The pattern can be purchased on Ravelry, or if you're not a Ravelry user or simply don't like to make purchases online, you can certainly buy it at Double Ewe.  So pretty - perfect for cool, early summer evenings.

While Supplies Last

I was recently cleaning out our storage area (our teeny, tiny storage area), and I came upon a box of Double Ewe fabric tote bags.   Hmmm...what to do...hmmm...

Starting now, when you spend $50 or more, you can take home one one of these snazzy bags.    If you came to our Knit in Public event last summer, you probably already have one.  But why not get another?      Again, while supplies last.

Reminder:  June 9th, World Wide Knit in Public Day

Put it on your calendar:  WWKIP Day is coming up again!  It's a day when knitters & crocheters get together and do their craft out in public, right out in front of the public!  If you want to read about the origins of WWKIP Day, you can visit the website that started it all.

This is our 6th annual WWKIP Day celebration at Double Ewe.  Really, put it on your calendar:  June 9th, from 1:00 - 5:00.  Details will follow, but it's always a day full of food, knitting, crochet, fun, drawings, great people, and if we're lucky, sunshine.  Join the fun!

Open Knitting & Crochet

Join us for a fun social time while working on whatever you want.  No registration required - just show up.  We have three times a week you can join us:

  • Tuesday evenings, 6:30 - 9:00
  • Friday afternoons, 1:30 - 4:30
  • Saturdays, 9:00 - noon

Please note:  Open Knitting is not a class.  Although I'm always happy to answer questions as time permits, sometimes it gets a bit hectic.  For more dedicated help, consider coming to one of our Knitter's Choice, Knit Along with Ann or The Workshop classes.  Details one these classes can be found here.

That's all for now, folks!  Once again, I'd like to thank you all for supporting your local yarn shop.
