News from Double Ewe
April 8, 2012
|
Happy Easter! We've been very focused on getting ready for the big event next week: the Minnesota Yarn Shop Hop. This is the sixth annual hop, but this is the first time Double Ewe has been a part of it...and we're excited! The Shop Hop runs from April 12th - 15th, that's Thursday through Sunday. Because of the shop hop, Thursday classes are cancelled, and we won't have our usual Friday & Saturday open knitting. But we'll be back to our usual shenanigans the following week

- Help stock local food shelves - receive a collectible charm when you make a donation to the local food shelf at each shop (food or cash donation. Charms available while supplies last.)
- Limited Edition Yarn - each shop has commissioned a limited edition yarn for this event.
- Free Pattern - get a free pattern at each shop, written for their limited edition yarn. No purchase necessary.
- Not a Knitter? We'll have daily drawings at each shop for beginning knitting classes - one winner per day per shop. OR come on Sunday from 1 - 4pm, for our free "Ready, Set, Knit" clinic to learn the knit stitch. See website for details. (Limited seating available, sessions run 1/2 hour, available for ages 12 and up.)
- Daily Door Prizes! Sign up for a daily drawing at each shop you visit. Exciting door prizes every day!
- Grand Prize! Turn in a completed entry form, stamped at each and every shop (all 14 of them), and you'll be qualified to enter the drawing for the grand prize. And it really is grand!
Visit the Shop Hop website for participating shop addresses, rules, maps, planning tips, and a blog.

New Stuff
Cuddles by Crystal Palace Yarns Cuddles is as soft and squishy as it's name implies. Made of super soft microfiber acrylic, it's great for baby items, afghans, scarves, hats, and more. As always, Crystal Palace offers some fun, free patterns, such as this trip-cornered baby hat. Lots of fun colors, from pastels to brights. Chunky.

--------------------
Heritage Silk Paints from Cascade yarns85% superwash merino wool, 15% mullberry silk. Gorgeous for lace shawls, scarves, and equally nice for socks. Yum.

--------------------
Rios from Malabrigo I confess, Rios isn't new to Double Ewe, but we recently received a box full of new-to-us colors, so I thought it was worth mentioning. Rios is a super soft, machine washable, hand kettle-dyed merino wool.
-------------------
Florafil from Textured Yarn Company Another not-new-but-recently-restocked-with-new-colors yarn. Yummy, hand dyed, crinkly, slightly chunky cotton in flower-inspired colors. Florafil provides us with lots of project ideas; these patterns are all available at the shop free when you purchase the yarn. A really nice warm-weather knitting option.

Fresh Off The Needles
Tami's Ballet Scarf This is one of Tami's recent projects. This pretty scarf is knitted with Ballet, a hand dyed blend of Alpaca and Tencel from Fiesta Yarns. Very pretty, and it takes just one skein.

Free Pattern Bonus
For the Yarn Shop Hop, each shop chose a country for our theme; Double Ewe will be representing the United States. These two patterns feature Willow Creek, a yarn that is totally US: the sheep, the spinning, and the dying...all in the US. So, I thought it would be appropriate to share them with you this week.
Feather & Fan Scarf I love the Feather & Fan stitch pattern - it's sort of old-fashioned, but in a good way, and I really enjoy knitting it. One four ounce skein of Willow Creek is enough to make a very long scarf - in this sample I used about 2/3 of a skein.
-------------------- My Other Cowl This is a lighter weight version of My Cowl. Another one of my favorite stitch patterns, but in crochet this time.

Knittervention!
This month's Knittervention! will be Friday, April 20th. Knittervention is our once-a-month, Friday-night-potluck-get-together. We do this the third Friday of every month, from 6:30 - 10:00. For the whole scoop, please click here.
Oh, and even though we call it Knittervention, of course crocheters are welcome, too. "Crochetervention" just sounded funny, and "Friday Night hookers"...well...that doesn't sound right either. ;)

Open Knitting & Crochet
Join us for a fun social time while working on whatever you want. No registration required - just show up. We have three times a week you can join us:
- Tuesday evenings, 6:30 - 9:00
- Friday afternoons, 1:30 - 4:30
- Saturdays, 9:00 - noon
Please note: Open Knitting is not a class. Although I'm always happy to answer questions as time permits, sometimes it gets a bit hectic. For more dedicated help, consider coming to one of our Knitter's Choice, Knit Along with Ann or The Workshop classes. Details one these classes can be found here.
