Crochet 101:  Beginning (or Refresher) Crochet

Crochet has gotten more and more popular in recent years - I've been dabbling in it quite a bit myself lately.  This is a great class to come to if:

  • You have no experience at all;  this is the place to start.
  • You're a knitter; crochet is a fun change of pace (and its a quick pace).  It's also really nice for borders and embellishments for your knitted projects.
  • You crocheted in the past but want to brush up your rusty skills.
  • You currently crochet, but you're self-taught, and you're not sure if you're doing things correctly.

We'll cover the basics of crochet.  You'll learn how to chain, how to single and double crochet as well as some other skills.  We're planing more crochet classes, so this is the place to get started.  Yarn and hook will be provided.

When:  Wednesday evenings, November 9 - 16th (2 weeks)

Time: 6:00 - 8:00

Instructor:  Michelle

Cost:  $25 (includes yarn and crochet hook)

Two at a Time Toe Up Socks - NEW!

Have you heard of Second Sock Syndrome?  It's an affliction many of us come down with immediately after finishing a hand knit sock.  The main symptom is a total lack of desire to knit its  mate.  Many knitters have succumbed to SSS and have piles of single socks to show for it.  But there is a cure:  knitting two identical socks at the same time.  There is hope;  come and learn.

When:  Saturday afternoons, November 5th - 19th (3 weeks)

Time: 1:00 - 3:00

Instructor: Tami

Cost:  $30 plus materials

Materials:  100 grams of sock yarn, two pairs of circular needles, size 1 - 2.  The book Knitting More Circles Around Socks is helpful and is available for purchase, but it's not required.

Skills needed:  basic knitting skills including increasing and decreasing.  You'll be knitting using fairly fine yarn and small needles but if you prefer to learn using a heavier weight yarn such as worsted and larger needles, that's an option.

Tuesdays:  1:00 - 3:00, October 18 - Nov 22

Wednesdays:  6:00 - 8:00, October 19 - Nov 23

Thursdays:  11:30 - 1:30, October 20th - Dec 1 (no class on Thanksgiving)

The Workshop and Knitter's Choice

These are ongoing classes; jump in whenever you want!  What do you knit?  Whatever you want!  You pick the project, and we provide the support.  Even if you've never knit before,we can teach you.  Mittens?  Socks?  Lace?  A sweater?  Knit what YOU want, but if you get stuck, don't worry, we can guide you along the way.  This is a great option if you want to take a class with a friend, but you knit at different levels.  Come to just one class or come every week - it's your choice.

When:  ongoing - Wednesday mornings 10:30 - 12:30 or Thursday afternoons 4:00 - 6:00

Instructor:  Kelly

Cost:  Pay as you go for $10 per class session, or $48/6 session punch card.

Knit Along with Ann

Join Ann in the classroom on Wednesday afternoons for some knitting fun and guidance when you need it.  If you need some help staying on track with a longer term project - such as an afghan, a shawl, maybe a sweater, Ann is happy to help you along.  Or maybe you have a project in mind but you're not sure if you have the skills, let Ann empower you.  This is an ongoing, casual class, and you can jump in at any time.

When: ongoing, Wednesday afternoons

Time:  1:30 - 3:30

Instructor:  Ann

Cost:  $5 per class

Yarn Tasting!

What is a yarn tasting?  Think wine tasting...but instead of wine, you'll be trying different yarns.  It's a fun way to sample some things; it's a way to find out what you like, or what you don't like, or maybe what you love to knit with.  It's also another excuse to enjoy the company of other knitters while testing out some of our new yarns.  You'll get mini-skeins of at least 10 yarns along with some other goodies.  You'll snack, chat, and swatch.  What a fun way to spend an evening!  We have just a couple slots still open - sign up soon!

When:  Friday, October 28th

Time:  6:30 - 9:00

Cost:  $20

What to bring:  knitting needles or crochet hooks.  You'll be sampling yarns from fine up to chunky, and the suggested needles can range from size 1 - 11-ish.  So, bring the needles you have, but don't worry if you don't have all the sizes - I have some needles I can share with you if needed.

How to sign up:  Seating is limited, so register as soon as possible by calling 763-780-2465.

Knittervention!

This month's Knittervention! is October 21st.  Knittervention is our once-a-month, Friday-night-potluck-get-together.  For the whole scoop, click here

Oh, and even though we call it Knittervention, of course crocheters are welcome, too.  "Crochetervention" just sounded funny, and "Friday Night hookers"...well...that doesn't sound right either. ;)

Open Knitting & Crochet

Join us for a fun social time while working on whatever you want.  No registration required - just show up.  We have three times a week you can join us:

  • Tuesday evenings, 5:00 - 8:00
  • Friday afternoons, 1:30 - 4:30
  • Saturdays, 9:00 - noon

Please note:  Open Knitting is not a class.  Although I'm always happy to answer questions as time permits, sometimes it gets a bit hectic.  For more dedicated help, consider coming to one of our Knitter's Choice, Knit Along with Ann or The Workshop classes.  Details one these classes can be found here.

That's all for now, folks!  Once again, I'd like to thank you all for supporting your local yarn shop.
