tourismZA Newsletter February 2012
|
|
Greetings!
That's it; your first month of 2012 is behind you. How's your year shaping up?
This edition reflects three ways that tourismZA can help reach your target tourism industry sector and to make contact with active tourists.
In this edition you will also see that over and above attending travel and tourism expos, tourismZA is also focussing on elusive groups of people (tourists) who travel throughout South Africa all year 'round. Every week, this motley, relatively affluent, adventure seeking, bunch mobilises and descends on a predetermined town or city somewhere in South Africa - we'd like to park their buts in your beds. Right now we're connecting with the paddling community.
Expos: tourismZA can help you at the Cape Getaway Show and Indaba 2012 - from updating your visitor and exhibitor database to setting up appointments.
News: If has relevant South African tourism industry news, tourismZA would like to help you get your news out to the industry. Send us an introduction and a link to the full story and we will consider it for the next edition. You will see that even if we wrote the article, the body of the editorial is hosted on contributor's websites; our objective is to connect our readers directly to a tourism industry specialist.
Who do you want to target? If you target a specific tourism market segment, let us know about it and tourismZA will ferret out relevant centres of influence in that segment and put you in touch with them.

Parking Paddlers buts in your beds in 2012
|
tourismZA is getting behind paddling in 2012.
Paddling, as is the case with most adventure sports, attracts athletes and supporters who; have money and want to travel - they just need places to stay and look for things to do!
So far 6927 individual paddlers, seconds and supporters have opted into our Paddling newsletter! We are now proactively putting them directly in touch with local tourismZA members. Consider this for a moment; even the smallest paddling event has over 200 paddlers, plus seconds, plus supporters - the bigger paddling events like the annual Fish River Canoe Marathon attracts more than 2000 paddlers, plus seconds, plus supporters, plus event facilitators - all need a place to stay. Many are looking for a reason to stay a little longer!
... tourismZA would like to park their butts in your beds; If you're within striking distance of, or hosting a paddling event and would like us to direct this motley bunch of devotees to you contact tourismZA.

Paddling for Smiles
|
tourismZA Provides the communication and media platform for the Paddling for Smiles campaign; one man's quest to paddle 2600km from Mozambique to Namibia. Why? Because we love paddlers! And, because it provides an opportunity for us to introduce places to stay, things to do and the relevant tourism contact information to paddlers and supporters of the Paddling for Smiles campaign. Bt the 9th day of the expedition more that 200 000 people had read about Paddling for Smiles. The shark attack on day 3 was international news, snapping his surfski in half on day 5 also made the front page - then the expedition was robbed and it was back to the drawing board. If you have tourism interest anywhere along the South African coastline it's probably in your interest to opt into the Paddling for Smiles interest group or scratch around the Paddling for Smiles Facebook pages. Paddling resumes in October, time enough for you to get involved!

Review: What makes The Robertson Small Hotel special?
|
Luxury accommodation, good food and attention to detail are what you expect from any five-star establishment. So what made The Robertson Small Hotel so special? The answer came to me, as all good ideas do, in the early hours of Saturday morning.... at the Arabella.

All set for Indaba 2012?
|
It's that time of year when the tourism industry starts gearing up for its annual migration to the Tourism Indaba in Durban (12 - 15 May 2012).
Like the annual sardine run, this four day trade event attracts a concentrated shoaling frenzy of over 13000 tourism industry delegates and decision makers to Durban. Some, like bonneted ladies in long dresses of old, scoop up a haphazard frock full of elusive contacts; the regular campaigners cast their nets methodically, systematically working through the bonanza one shoal at a time.
|
Three trade show priorities
|
Your display
By now your display for Indaba 2012 should be pretty much done and dusted. If not, you may want to get in touch with Displays&Exhibitions who specialise in designing, building and project managing displays for the tourism industry. They are offering a 15% rebate on installations.
Your appointments
Even the most experienced Indaba campaigners won't get to see everybody they would like to see. The key to a successful Indaba is to ensure that you identify and set your appointments with key industry contacts before Indaba even starts. Over the years tourismZA has built up a solid, up to date list of contacts of Indaba delegates. If you would like us to assist you in setting up your appointments for you please contact tourismZA.
Updating your tourism contacts
This year, instead of leaving Indaba with an expensive bag of good intentions, maybe you should consider having us update your contacts database for you. Within a week of getting back from Indaba tourismZA will have the meetings you had at Indaba converted to complete, categorised and correct contact lists. For more information on updating your Indaba contact list contact tourismZA.
