Networking your business to tourism in South Africa

Circulated to the tourism industry & active travellers throughout South Africa

Kalk Bay
Greetings!

If you are even remotely linked to tourism in Cape Town this tourism review will be of value to you.

As a tour operator, ground handler or travel agent that packages any type of Cape Town experience, Metrorail's internationally acclaimed Southern Line offering has got to be one of the best value-for-money, versatile, and reliable opportunities in the Mother City.

 train on the Southern Line

If you are a destination anywhere in South Africa that tries to attract active tourists from Cape Town to your destination, tourismZA plans to issue tourismZA cards to active tourists using the Southern Line and / or visiting the destination partners over the 2011 festive season.

You will be able to communicate your offering to every active tourist that has a tourismZA card.

Why / How will this work for you?

Simplistically, tourismZA cards will be issued to selected active tourists travelling on Metrorail's Southern Line or those tourists that visit any of the restaurants, participate in any of the tours or stay at any of the establishments of those companies that have partnered with Metrorail on the Southern Line. All of these tourists will have cash in their cards that can be used at these and other participating outlets. More importantly these tourists, who have opted in for specific tourism information, will be directed to you if you have relevant information and services.

Review - The Southern Line

Hop on, hop off the train as many times as you like between Cape Town and Simon's Town and experience a day that will rival your best ever holiday anywhere in the World! Treat yourself to an oversized helping of the very best that Cape Town has to offer, served Capetonian style.

My day on the Southern Line was like stepping in and out of a series of living photographs - a collage that sliced through a real life cross-section of the Mother City.

This One Day or Two Day Pass between Cape Town and Simon's Town allows you to immerse yourself in doing only what you want to do and elliminates the hassle of finding parking, feeding insatiable parking metres or fighting the traffic. Destination partners of the Southern Line ensure that at every hop off station there are adventures and activities for everybody.

Here's how to do it: Create your own bucket list and upsize what you want to do into an exceptional day, like the one that motivated me to write this up and share it with you.

Think of something you want to do in Cape Town, anything from the smorgasbord of possibilities on offer. Only your imagination limits the possibilities and pleasure available to you.

In between taking photographs, I upsized my day with a high speed, adrenalin pumping inflatable boat ride and a visit to the SAS Assegaai Submarine in Simon's Town. Maybe the underwater world of Atlantis exists? There must be a place somewhere for retired submariners - they are definitely more at home under the water than they are on the surface.

For me, I felt like drifting down the Southern Line taking photographs; maybe even take one good enough to frame for the empty space above the stairs at home. I'm no photographer so I'm not going to bore you with my happy snaps, but my most productive hop of point for photographs was Kalk Bay.

As I sat back from the seafood platter that got the better of me at Bertha's restaurant I realised that Simon's Town was possibly Cape Town's best kept waterfront secret. Here I was, part of a picture perfect setting, sipping quietly on a glass of good white wine reflecting on a day of photographs, adventure, fine food and total relaxation. I'm no history buff, but The British Hotel building just behind me, the Dockyard Gates and the SA Naval Museum I had stopped off at along the way provide a setting that feels far from the maddening crowd. This historic port has everything that the Cape Town V&A Waterfront has to offer and a whole lot more.

Even heading home resulted in an impromptu hop off at the legendary Brass Bell for a quick beer. There's no such thing as a quick stop for a beer at the Brass Bell; you're literally sitting in the sea on what was a whaling station back in date. The pounding deep sea waves against the wall at your back, the sea spray and the oxygenated taste of the Atlantic Ocean in your nostrils. It was half an hour before I reluctantly drifted back to the platform with definite plans to do this again in October with a whole bunch of mates. At R30, for an entire day of unlimited hop on / hop off photo opportunities, impromptu adventures and sightseeing in a uniquely Cape Town atmosphere - a day on the Southern Line is a win.

...you're welcome to join me. Come to think of it, if there are enough of us we can commandeer an entire business class train for the day. Personally I'm going to upsize a one day surfing safari between Muizenberg and Glencairn, then finish off with lunch in Simon's Town and another beer at the Brass Bell.
Don't hesitate to call us for more information.
