Dear Friends, Neighbors and Members of St. Cyprian's,

One of the places I go online every few days when I am searching for wisdom, insight, inspiration or a challenging question that will help me remember the larger story of which we are part, is a website run by the ecumenical Church of the Savior in Washington, DC called Inward/Outward. Two quotes spoke to me recently and reminded me of the atmosphere St. Cyprian's, with our friends at USF and neighbors helped nurture at last Saturday's BBQ & Rummage Sale.

The first quote is from Jean Vanier, the founder of L'Arche an international organization that creates communities where people with developmental disabilities and those who assist them share life together.

"The fundamental attitudes of true community, where there is true belonging, are openness, welcome, and listening to God, to the universe, to each other and to other communities. Community life is inspired by the universal and is open to the universal. It is based on forgiveness and openness to those who are different, to the poor and the weak. Sects put up walls and barriers out of fear, out of a need to prove themselves and to create a false security. Community is the breaking down of barriers to welcome difference."

The other is from Albert Einstein, the theoretical physicist,

"We are part of the whole which we call the universe, but it is an optical delusion of our mind that we think we are separate. This separateness is like a prison for us. Our job is to widen the circle of our compassion so we feel connected with all people and situations."

St. Cyprian's seeks to be a community that is open, welcoming, and listening to God, the universe, each other and other communities. We strive to be aware (and invite other to be aware) of our connectedness with all people and situations, widening our personal and collective circles of compassion. The Bazaar BBQ & Rummage Sale was not just a fundraiser for a new kitchen, it was also a celebration of the life of this little church striving to be about big things. Thank you for being part of the revival of that tradition whether you held us in prayer, donated objects to be sold, cooked, cleaned, played music, helped carry away leftovers to the goodwill and/or simply enjoyed the festivities. We raised over $4,000 from Rummage & BBQ, all of which will go to our goal of building a new community kitchen.

See you soon at Turk & Lyon!

Peace,

Will

SF Live Arts presents...
a real folk blues festival with
  • Dustbowl Revival
  • Devine's Jug Band
  • Ragtime Skedaddlers

THIS Saturday May 12 at 8 pm

North meets South in this match-up with LA's fine folk-roots orchestra and SF's top jug band with the best ragtime string band around. Dustbowl Revival brings the big sound of horns with a roots-based rhythm section mixed with stunning vocals to create a new sound of folk/blues/roots. Devine's Jug Band gets you going with a virtuoso mlange of Old-Time and Jug Band.  And you can dance in the aisles here at Cyprian's. Ragtime Skeddadlers offer up guitar and mandolin with echoes of the golden age of ragtime, from the 1890s until WWI. If you're a fan of roots, Jug Band, Old-Time and Ragtime, you've got to be here for this full evening with an amazing line-up.

Resound Ensemble' Spring Concert:
The Deep Heart's Core, May 18 & 19

Resound Ensemble. Singing as a massed ensemble and in small groups, the performance features composers Eric gogle, Timothy Takach, Eleanor Daley, Daniel Kallman and Paul J. Christensen.
Help us welcome a new choir to Cyprian's.

SUMMER Youth Programs at Cyprian's

The Village Project Returns
St. Cyprian's is honored to have The Village Project return this year with its exceptional Summer Program. Starting June 18 and continuing through August 9th, up to 30 kids start their day at St. Cyprian's before heading
out to swimming lessons, field trips and outdoor play in the city. Under the leadership and guidance of St. Cyprian's member Adrian Williams,
the Village Project steps up to provide kids a healthy, active summer.

SF Day School & Neighbors Support
Community Programs at Turk & Lyon

Last week the San Francisco Day School contributed $3,000 to St. Cyprian's for its community programs. The donation was facilitated by two generous neighbors who continue to make this community so amazing. Located three blocks from St. Cyprian's church and cyprian's arc, the SF Day School frequently provides meeting space to neighborhood groups and particpates in community activities. This support from the SF Day School will help us provide more events and programs in the months ahead. A huge thank you to David Jackson, Head of School, and the SFDS Board of Trustees.

The work at Turk & Lyon would not be possible without the generous donation of time, skills and labor provided by so many friends, neighbors and congregation members. We are deeply grateful for the many ways that people make this a resilient community.
