Dear friends, neighbors, and members of St. Cyprian's,
A few days ago I was spending time with strangers who attended other larger churches around the Bay Area. They were curious to learn about what is happening at St. Cyprian's. As I described the music series, our hosting a college group, and striving to create a community kitchen their eyes lit up. I think they expected to hear a far different story. When I spoke about what we are doing together, I found myself getting more and more excited and grateful.
"I'll be back on Sunday, I like the energy and warmth of this place." Last night at our Ash Wednesday service one person who was visiting us for the first time and said "I'll be back on Sunday, I like the energy and warmth of this place." I don't think she was just talking about the newly improved heating system. After the service, to my surprise, people didn't just walk out in silence, but lingered around the altar. Perhaps because we had put ashes on each others foreheads, we had recognized our connectivity and remembered that we are but dust.
I am looking forward to learning and growing with you during this holy season of Lent on Sundays at 10:10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Bring a friend or stranger with you.
See you soon at Turk & Lyon.
Peace, Will

Community Kitchen Update
On Tuesday the Cyprian's Kitchen Team and neighborhood collaborators met to look closely at the design for the new community kitchen, thanks to the work of Joe Yick of Robert Yick Company Inc. and neighbor NOPA restaurant co-owner Jeff Hanak. Our USF intern shared a presentation on the variety of permits St. Cyprian's will need to obtain for the project and recorded short video interviews with team members. Friends from Simply Sandwiches who regularly use our space on Fridays were also present at the meeting facilitated by St. Cyprian's member and chef Gigi Smith.

Sojourners at St. Cyprian's
This week St. Cyprian's is providing hospitality to 12 students and two adults from Gonzaga University as they pursue a week of compassionate service and spiritual reflection. They are staying at St. Cyprian's through March 12th, during the day the students have been working on service projects around the city and in the evening reflecting on their experiences over communal meals. Many thanks to our neighbors at USF for allowing our guests to use the facilities at their gym just a few blocks away during their stay at St. Cyprian's. We look forward to hosting additional college and youth groups on service trips in the months and years to come.
