This week, visitors and passersby at St. Cyprian's were greeted by a colorful array of chalk messages and artwork. So far no one has claimed to be the artist though plenty of guessing has occurred. Was this the work of our friendly Wigg Party (named for the Wiggle, a bike path through the city), a local group of cyclists dedicated to sustainability and fun known to enjoy making chalk art? Did youth from either the Village Project, an after-school program, we share space with, or from our tenant congregation create these markings? Could this be the work of a yet to be known neighbor? Whoever took the time to make us all smile, thank you! The fact that these warm messages could have come from any number of places is itself good news.
There are literally signs of joy, connectivity, playfulness, and hope springing up all over the place. Banners proclaim concerts are coming, a new permanent sign for St. Cyprian's is on the way and the phone company even replaced a rusted cover with a new one. These exterior changes are helping to communicate what many people connected with St. Cyprian's through the years have long known, this is a unique, vibrant and life giving community in the heart of San Francisco. A few weeks ago I met with the son of a long time congregant who remembered enthusiastically the delicious soft cakes served from our church kitchen. He and his siblings attended St. Cyprian's regularly with their mother when he was a student at a neighborhood school. As pastor I feel so privileged to hear stories like this one all the time. In the weeks and months ahead I look forward to finding many more ways to collect and share the important stories of how St. Cyprian's has nurtured, inspired and sustained the spiritual journey of a diverse array of people. Our faith teaches us that remembering and honoring the past is a vital part of discerning and discovering how God is calling us to be present today and in the future. If you have a story to share, please send us an email turkandlyon@gmail.com and or call the church.
Thank you for all the ways that you proclaim in your daily lives that "love is the movement." May St. Cyprian's long continue to be part of helping you find nourishment, inspiration and sustenance. See you at Turk & Lyon soon.
Peace, Will

SF Live Arts Music Series
St. Cyprian's is excited to launch in February its new performance space, Cyprian's, with a much-respected music series produced by SF Live Arts. For 30 years, the Noe Valley Ministry hosted this series and presented Grammy and Academy Award winners as well as emerging talent. The music ranges from jazz, folk, world music, bluegrass, old-time, and eclectic mixes of all. Two to three performances will be offered each month at Cyprian's beginning Friday, February 11 at 8pm with opening acts from the San Francisco Bluegrass and Old-Time Festival. Performer Nell Robinson will re-create a 1930s radio show and old-time music revue. Please plan on welcoming her and her guests John Reischman & the Jaybirds, Summertown Road, and the "fine-feathered song sisters" The Henrietta's.
Cyprian's will also share our beautiful space with other performances through the year including student music recitals, spoken word, and lectures. Please stop by our new website Cyprian's at http://liveatcyprians.blogspot.com/ for a complete update on St. Cyprian's latest engagement with our neighbors and community.
Thank you to our new friend Rick Helf and neighbor Lenore McDonald for help with publicity and design work for Cyprian's at Night.
