returntotop2010 ISIS USERS' CONFERENCE
WAZA president
Dr. Jörg Junhold to open
2012 ISIS Users' Conference

Dr. Jorg Jünghold

Dr. Jörg Junhold will open the ISIS Users' Conference,
24 September in Innsbruck, Austria. As a former ISIS Board member, Manager and Director of Zoo Leipzig and President of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), Dr. Junhold will speak about the importance of zoos and aquariums in meeting preservation objectives for wildlife populations.

"Today responsible zoos have a much more holistic view of their work," says Dr. Junhold." They aim to contribute to species and habitat conservation on different levels and to support public education on environmental issues. The ISIS community and knowledgebase will play an increasingly important role in assuring that we have the knowledge to make a positive impact in wildlife population sustainability."

The main focus of the ISIS Users' Conference is to offer ISIS members training on basic records keeping through use of ISIS software. The conference also offers ISIS the opportunity to:

  • Preview upcoming developments in ISIS products
    and services
  • Solicit feedback on the direction for ISIS products
    and services

"Conference attendees will be the first to see the new developments we have planned for the ZIMS application," said ISIS CIO Doug Verduzco. "We will also hold feedback sessions to allow our members to provide input into decisions about our products and services going forward.

"We have always focused on community development, and the ISIS Users' Conference gives us the opportunity to come face-to-face to discuss the future direction of ISIS to support our members' needs."

ISIS is now hosting the EAZA Registrars' Forum

One of the services ISIS offers to the community is the opportunity to host forums on topics of interest to the zoological community. The latest addition to this offering is the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) Registrars' Forum.

This forum offers our European members the opportunity to discuss issues of importance to them in a secure venue that includes only EAZA members.

"We felt it important to start this forum to give our institution's registrars the opportunity to learn - and promote best practices in animal records-keeping among their peers," said ISIS European Coordinator Sander Cozjin. "This forum is fully supported by both ISIS and EAZA, demonstrating our community's desire to fully work together for the sake of animal preservation."

Opened only last month, this forum already has almost 50 members.

To join:

Non-EAZA members may request access to this forum through the ISIS European Regional Coordinator Sander Cozjin (scozjin@isis.org).

It is the goal of ISIS to obtain the

for zoos, aquariums and related organizations worldwide.

Part of the above objective requires that we find ways to bring organizations that cannot afford membership in ISIS into our collaboration. You can help expand that network by sponsoring credible organizations who are doing wildlife conservation work.
