PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hi Jackpott Members,
I'm sorry there wasn't a July message. My 93 year-old Granny passed away at the end of June and we've just now finished the funeral, burial and Memorial services. I was so proud of our twins. At 4 1/2, they both spoke and sang at her memorial service! We set it up interview style and they talked about what they remembered about their Great Granny, what they liked to do with her and sang Jesus Loves Me, one of Granny's favorite songs.
Anyway, we are now into the summer thing with day camps, pool time and getting back into workbooks so they can remember some things that they seem to be forgetting from school!
August will be a whirlwind for everyone, I know. We have many families due with multiples this summer. All our best thoughts go to our expectant and families of newborn multiples. Hang in there and don't be shy to contact your zone captain for whatever help you might need.
Our August meeting is on water safety. Last summer a non-member family in the Jacksonville area lost twins who somehow got out of the house and ended up in the neighborhood pond. Please try to attend this important session.
We have been talking about setting up a time in August for everyone to meet up at Hannah Park at the splash area. Date TBD so watch the Yahoo Group, the calendar and Facebook for updates.
A special thanks to our zone captains who are getting to know the needs of the members in their areas and organizing playdates, family breakfasts and Moms' nights out. We had a great night at Millers Ale House last week for the beaches zone - Thanks Kelly for organizing!
I will be attending the convention for the National Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs next week (it's in my in-laws' home town). I hope to bring back many ideas for Jackpott and get to know the resources available to us through NOMOTC.
Please enjoy the last few weeks of summer before school starts. Stay safe and cool!

MESSAGE FROM OUR 1ST VP
Hello everyone.
July once again was a good month for renewals and for new moms joining our group. During July, we had 3 new members join our group and one prospective member looking to join. One of our new members just had their twins in February and the other two are expecting their bundles of joy later this year. In addition we had 7 members renew their registrations. This brings our membership total to 76 families so far. Unfortunately this means that we had about 20 families that did not renew by the deadline and were removed from the Yahoo group. If any of our members knows of someone who was a member but didn't renew please reach out to them and let them know they can still renew but the price will be $25.00. I would definitely need all final renewals by the end of August in order to have our list ready to provide to Nationals for us to make our renewals for them. If you have questions about your renewal please email me at Richarni1625@hotmail.com.
We are still looking for Zone Captains for the Arlington and St Augustine area as well as a co-captain for the Beaches zone. If you or someone you know would be a good candidate for either of these zones please let Kelly Emilio know and she will reach out to them. Her email address is kemilioteach@yahoo.com.
I look forward to seeing you at the August meeting which will surely be fun; it is all about water safety and our kids.
Sincerely,
Nicole Richardson
1st VP. |

July Meeting Recap
Two Great Presentations!
Tuesday, July 12th, was JACKPott's Monthly General Meeting. A great turn-out, some wonderful new families, and some super-interesting speakers made for a terrific evening!
Naveen Agarwal, Ph.D., Blog Writer and father of twins (as well as the husband to our Public Relations guru, Elif Gurel!), gave a great talk about nutrition for toddlers and what some experts have shared on his blog. All of the usual questions, from "how many calories a day are enough?" to "how can we get them to eat vegetables?" come up consistently for him. Because every family has different budgets and cultural choices, Naveen didn't detail specific foods to eat, but instead described proven methods to encourage kids to make good choices. Check out his blog through uor "Links" box!
Michele Doss, owner of Chase Foods, a new market specializing in allergy-free products also came to speak. Her personal experiences with her son's extreme allergies that appeared at the age of two days led her to search out and research hundreds of items that can be life-saving for some families. Allergy causing foods like gluten, soy, peanuts, dairy, eggs, and on and on have natural substitutes that can be found thanks to Michele's dilegence. And the fig bars she brought were yummy! Check out the website of Chase Foods too - in our "Links" section. Remember - our next General Meeting is
