PROCRASTINATION ANIMATION VIDEO
Everyone procrastinates to some degree, and that's normal, but it becomes a problem when it interferes with normal functioning, impacts our health, stresses us out and makes us lose sleep.
If you can identify the reason you're putting something off, you're ahead of the game. Here are some of the top reasons people procrastinate:
1: Perfectionism - Did you know that perfectionism and procrastination sometimes go hand-in-hand? Often people delay doing something because they place unrealistic demands on themselves to do the task perfectly (That usually translates into believeing the task will take far longer than it will in actuality.) Better to GET STARTED and fine tune later. The best advice I've heard on this came from a fortune in a piece of Dove Dark chocolate. "It's better to do something imperfectly than nothing perfectly."
2)"Not in the Mood"....If you're not in the mood to do something you've been putting off, I can PROMISE you that you will not be any more in the mood tomorrow than you are today. Remind yourself of this fact, and get on with it.
3) Feeling Overwhelmed - Remember: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Break projects into bite size tasks. The very act of getting started will propell you to the next action. If you're feeling truly overwhelmed and don't know where to begin, ASK for help. Often our pride gets in the way, or fear of sounding stupid prevents us from gathering the information we need to get going. Stuck writing a report for your boss? You may want to ask her "What are the key points you'd like me to focus on?".
Always remember to ask yourself this crucial question:
WHAT'S THE BEST THING I COULD BE WORKING ON AND WHY AREN'T I ?
And finally...Make a Procrastination Proclamation
1) List the three most important things you need to do TODAY
2) Create accountability by having a co-worker, friend or boss
make periodic checks on your progress.
3) Make the task fun - If you're preparing a presentation, add graphics. When doing chores, build in a reward; listen to music.
4) Remind yourself of the VALUE of that which needs to get done.
'Til next time.....Have a productive week!
