Who Will Be Among the Award Winners on June 2?
In January, 65 classes were offered to AHP members to enter their best work from 2011. By deadline date, 90 members had submitted entries which totaled 686. After 22 professionals judged the competition, the 62 finalists were announced. On June 2 in Colonial Williamsburg, the awards winners will be announced and 167 awards presented.
Here's what some of the judges wrote about this year's entries.
"Thanks again for the opportunity to judge. I always learn so much and was especially impressed with the quality of the entries overall in the book category this year."
"As usual it was very, very hard to select the various places because there are a lot of good stories here. I think what it came down to in my selections were the best stories, the ones that were really interesting as well as well-written."
"The level of work was excellent and it was difficult to make choices."
"The entries all showed a great deal of effort and passion for their topics. They offer a wealth of information, entertainment and even some good laughs. All participants should be commended for making strides into the digital realm."

AHP Celebrates Horses and Students in Colonial Williamsburg

In Colonial times people gathered in taverns, where they danced, drank, ate, and had animated discussions about politics and their horses, often matching them against each other in a race. On Friday night, June 1, AHP seminar attendees will gather at the Student Award Party to honor the three 2012 Student Travel Award Winners and learn who will be named the 2012 Student Award Winner. Step back in time to enter an 18th century tavern where colonists were served ale and good food as strolling musicians entertained the crowds. And join the debate over which of the top five nominated horses will become AHP's Great American Horse. Fans of Secretariat, Man o' War, Rugged Lark, Wimpy P-1 or Justin Morgan's Figure will campaign their favorite horse to win attendees votes. Attendees are encouraged to wear red, white and blue and be ready to raise their glasses and shout HUZZAH! for horses and students throughout the evening.
