The University of Kentucky's Equine Initiative has changed its name to UK Ag Equine Programs. The name change was undertaken by the College of Agriculture in consultation with its internal and external stakeholders to better reflect the breadth of equine offerings at UK and the college's long-term commitment to serving the state's signature equine industry. The Equine Initiative was launched in 2005 when the College of Agriculture set out to radically change how it served Kentucky's signature equine industry and provide a suite of services appropriate for a land-grant university. In a nod acknowledging the success of those efforts and a continued commitment to the state's equine industry, the college has adopted a new name to better position its equine programs for continued success. More about UK Ag Equine Programs can be found online at www.ca.uky.edu/equine. |

For members who did not meet Jim in Saratoga Springs, NY in 2008, he is an upbeat, fun guy, filled with ideas and energy. He will also deliver the Keynote Address on Friday morning.
One-on-One Critiquing sessions with Jim Nissen will be held on Friday, June 1, 2012. Fifteen (15) 15-minute sessions will be available on a first come, first served basis. | | Tanya Heins | "Planning Your Shift to a Digital Publication Workflow" is the focus of two sessions presented by TANYA HEINS, Founder, Numen Communications Inc., on Saturday afternoon, June 2. The first hour long presentation will provide perspective from the 'front lines' and cover trends, production workflow, changes in skills along with new distribution channels. After the break, the second hour of the presentation will demonstrate a range of production tools and discuss considerations for interactive media development.
 | | Jody Jaffe and John Muncie |
Join the dynamic journalistic husband and wife team of JODY JAFFE and JOHN MUNCIE for "Better Story Crafting" on Friday afternoon from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Good writing is good writing, regardless of the subject. As journalists, Jody and John teach the ABCDs of writing: Accuracy, Brevity, Clarity and the key to vigorous prose, Detail. Their session will include lecture and short exercises, but they have an informal and hopefully, fun, approach to teaching. No hand raising, no sitting like bumps on a log. You can't be a good writer if you're not engaged.
 | | Matt Bailey |
MATT BAILEY, founder and president of SiteLogic Marketing, is the foremost expert in web persuasion. He presents two sessions in Williamsburg. Are you struggling to make sense of analytics and get to the data that will help your publication? Then relax. Matt's first session on Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. is titled "Analytics Made Fun and Easy." Analytics is not something that comes easy to many people, mainly for the reason that no one has been taught how to read analytics properly. By starting at the point of defining what each of the numbers mean and what they offer in terms of value, Matt will unravel the mysteries of your data. Matt's second session will be held on Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on "Online Marketing Tools and How to Use Them." There is no lack of tools available for today's marketer, but obviously, some are much better than others. Matt not only shows his favorite marketing tools, but also explains how to use them in context with other tools and the actions that should result from their use.

Additional speakers and sessions will be announced online, so check the 2012 Seminar Page. |

Meet the 2012 AHP Travel Award Winners
American Horse Publications is pleased to announce the three Student Travel Award winners for 2012.
KATE LIGHT, 23, is a senior at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she majors in English. A horsewoman since age six, Kate worked through high school and college to pay for her horse's upkeep. A job as a therapeutic riding instructor instilled patience, strong work ethics and excellent communication skills. An internship at Practical Horseman led to an opportunity she couldn't pass up. Although she had to complete her undergraduate studies part-time, she enthusiastically accepted the full-time position as content manager of EquiSearch.com. Her future plans are to continue working in the equine publishing industry, specifically in online content, but she would also like to have an opportunity to write articles for both print and online publications.
SARAH JACOBS, 19, is a freshman at Rice University majoring in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology with a double major in English. Her career interest is to become a staff writer for an equine publication or freelance as a feature/news writer in addition to a career in equine veterinary medicine. Wherever Sarah's career journey takes her, one lesson she learned at a very young age is that if you fall of a horse, you always get back on. That lesson has stayed with her throughout setbacks on her high school magazine, learning new riding skills, or planning out her career goals. In addition to enjoying polo, dressage, trail riding and hunt seat equitation, Sarah is an advocate of helping others and the environment.
DANIELLE MORITZ, 19, is a junior at William Woods University where she majors in Communications Journalism & Public Relations and Equine General Studies (Equine Media.) Horses entered her life when she was ten with a horseback riding lesson. She was instantly hooked and began to work hard to become a competitive eventer. After deciding a show career wasn't for her, she discovered journalism in high school and it became her second passion. Together, horses and journalism led her to equine media. She aspires to gain the knowledge and experience to achieve her greatest dream of becoming an equine journalist.
The three travel award winners will be interviewed at the AHP seminar and one student will be announced as the 2012 Student Award winner at the Student Award Party on Friday, June 1, 2012. The Student Award winner wins a cash award of $1,000 plus an all-expense paid trip hosted by Publishers Press to one of their Two-Day Customer Education Seminars in Louisville, Kentucky, to have a unique experience to learn the printing process.
