Name the 2011 San Diego Seminar
Catamaran Resort on Mission Bay
Catamaran Resort
Are you California dreamin' of a West Coast beach or a tropical paradise within a short drive to a cosmopolitan city and world famous attractions? Then mark your calendars for the AHP annual seminar to be held at the Catamaran Hotel Resort and Spa on Mission Bay on June 16-18, 2011.
www.catamaranresort.com

This will be AHP's second visit to San Diego, having held "Seminar del Sol" at the U.S. Grant Hotel in 1998. As a former "OB Chick," myself, I fell in love with San Diego in the early 70s and while the city has changed in many ways, the beach areas have maintained their uniqueness and charm. The San Diego area has much to offer beyond the beaches as well so plan to extend your stay and explore. The San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau provides the inspiration so visit their web site at http://www.seeyouinsandiego.com/nav/Visitors

AHP members are invited to submit their favorite names for next year's seminar. The Board members will review all of the suggestions and vote on their top picks. Then we will survey the membership to select the winner.

Members may submit as many ideas as they wish by e-mailing your ideas to [email protected] by September 15.

AHP Student Fund and Raffle Exceeds Expectations in Lexington

AHP Student Award Party Celebrates the World Equestrian Games

The 18th annual Student Fund silent auction and 2010 Student Award Party were held on Friday, June 18, during the AHP "40th Anniversary" Seminar in Lexington, Kentucky. The Student Fund began in 1993 as a way for members to support the Student Award program. A total of $3,935.00 was raised this year, an increase of over $1,000 from 2009. The silent auction of over 90 items brought in $3,355 and raffle and merchandise sales added $580. Over 150 attendees enjoyed an evening of "undisciplined fun" in celebration of the disciplines and countries of the World Equestrian Games.

Special thanks goes to the evening's sponsors, Pfizer Animal Health, AQHA Publications, and Freedom Health's SUCCEED and the individuals who supported the Student Fund by donating and purchasing auction items and merchandise.  For Full Story

How did the AHP 40th Anniversary Seminar in Lexington rate with attendees? A recent survey conducted on Survey Monkey asked attendees to rate sessions, the hotel, and activities. The survey drew 111 responses, representing over 50% of the attendees.

On Friday, the session rated the most valuable by those attending it, was Rob Hendrickson's session on "Using Social Media for Marketing and Sales" followed by the Horse Publishing Trends Panel. Dr. Samir Husni's two sessions on editorial content had the highest overall ratings of 4.24 out of 5.0.

"Building Your Brand" presented by Bill Shelton was selected most valuable by session attendees followed by his other session on "Marketing in the Moment."  Overall, Milt Toby received high marks for all three of his sessions with Copyright 101 being the highest at 4.41 out of 5.0. Other speakers receiving 4.0 and above were Bill Shelton and Rob Hendrickson. All in all, every session rated over 3.0.

The AHP 40 Ideas on Tour earned the highest rating of 4.66; however the Alltech Welcome Reception, Student Award Party, and Awards Banquet all exceeded 4.0.

The majority of the attendees agreed that the Hilton Lexington Downtown was an excellent location and rated hotel services and guest rooms very high.

Overall, the 111 survey respondents rated the Lexington seminar as 66.7% Excellent (74) and 33.3% Good (37).

Was 2010 the best attended seminar in AHP history? It was close. Actually, the award goes to the Lexington seminar held in 2004 that totalled 240 in attendance. Lexington 2010 comes in second with 220. The silver lining is that this year's attendance exceeded 2009 by 100.

A positive outlook for San Diego 2011.
